Am I having a terrible cycle or is this normal???

Post by Cognoscenti » Sun Feb 28, 2010 10:03 pm

I have a 3.4 - science major at an Ivy. Graduated 2 years ago and have been working in IP since. I have a 167/168 LSAT. My apps were submitted early (complete by Halloween).
My results have been disappointing...or were my expectations unrealistic?

I'm totally expecting the ding from Cornell as well.
But Hastings and GWU kind of surprises me, no?

It's good to know my results are pretty on par.
I began worrying that my LORs have something terrible in them, etc.

Yeah, the ding from BC is surprising, as is the WL from Hastings (could be YP, though). Everything else is probably on par, I'm afraid to say.

I hope you have received at least SOME good news. :D

This is a rough cycle in general.

As a side question, whats better: WL or Held?

Held is better since you're getting a second look very soon, be to compared to other applicants. WL might be a soft rejection, or nobody might get off the WL in any particular year.

Held. It means they couldn't decide between Admit/WL I believe.

Definitely held.
WL = pshhh yeah call us in August.
Held = five more minutes please!!

I'm not sure if these are super surprising. LSP has you at Consider for BC, with 57% in with worse stats, so it sounds like that was kind of a toss-up. Hastings has you at a Strong Consider with 70% in with worse, which makes a WL slightly disappointing, but not completely baffling (and surely not YP territory).

Are these all the schools you applied to? Not that you asked for advice, but since you do have a job, I would think about retaking and reapply next year.

BU should have been an acceptance... unless they are YP also....

You are in a pickle because you have an amazing lsat and a shitty gpa for t14. So anyone out of the t20 thinks youll go higher so yp screws you lol.

Apply to WashU man.. they love people like you

Is "for t14" modifying both "shitty gpa" and "amazing lsat" here, or just "shitty gpa"?

I am shocked about Hastings. Same cycle, I am a 3.3 biology major from a much lower ranked school with a 167 and I got into Hastings. I went completely in late November and was accepted by Christmas. Don't know what to tell you. It might be a LOR or PS thing?

Take LSP with a grain of salt.

I got straight out dinged from 3 schools that LSP put me as a strong consider. One of them was hastings.

Yeah, that's a bit rough. BU and Hastings should be IN (especially with Ivy u-grad). Otherwise, though, everything's pretty much right on target (especially for this cycle) - just a quick note, though: none of these schools on LSP are "admit", so I hope you have a safety or two...

This looks really rough to me. I hope I don't suffer the same fate.

I'm surprised about BU. On LSN BU hasn't rejected or waitlisted anyone with similar numbers.

Held. It means they couldn't decide between Admit/WL I believe.
Does this mean held applicants won't be rejected? Because that would be nice news.

According to the letter I have recieved, you can still be accepted/rejected/waitlisted.

Sorry to hear...it sounds a bit on the rough side. I have nearly identical stats (3.39, 167) and applied same time as you, and I'm WL at gulc and in at GW and Fordham. Think your LORs were good? Any interesting softs?

Oh man. I don't know if I should be relieved that others think (at least part of) my situation is crap...
