Academic LOR Inquiry Forum

I graduated May 09 from a big public research university and most of my classes were pretty big, even the upper level seminars would have like 25-30 people in them. I established no close relationships with any of my professors and now that I have decided to apply to law school I'm very worried about my LORs. I have a good Ugrad gpa but was never the most outspoken person in a class and did not attend office hours. Currently I have an internship that will get me a rec. but I understand it is very important to also obtain a academic LOR. I was thinking of taking a summer class at a college near my residence as a non-matriculated student this summer in order to develop a relationship with a professor to obtain a LOR. Is this a crazy idea and a total waste of time?

I was in a very similar situation. I think your best bet would be to contact a professor whose class you did really well in and ask him to write a LOR. Unless a prof has some uncanny ability to remember names and faces he won't remember most students. He will ask for your resume, personal statement and your grades. He has done this before and unless he is an a-hole he will crank out some nicely written fluff about how you were an exceptional student who any law school would be lucky to have.

Don't take a summer class just to get an LOR. Schools will know and it will look bad.
