Admissions Office Typos

Post by PlugInBaby » Sun Feb 21, 2010 1:14 am

Anyone heard of any documented or anecdotal cases where someones admission decision was skewed to some sort of typo by the office of admissions (eg. a 159 LSAT mistakenly entered as a 169).

I'm tempted to call a school that WL me (i'm over the 75th percentile in both) to see if my stats were entered correctly...good move? bad move?

It sounds like YP.

Judging by LSN...it appears I'm the only one who was YP'd if that was the case. I thought there would be more instances of YP if that were truly the case.

Among the sea of green..i'm the one in the yellow submarine.

Then again it could be a matter of a small sample size.

Yeah, there aren't many data points, but it does seem strange. I guess it could have something to do with your app. Did you apply late?

I was complete in early December, and it seems like people are getting acceptances with lower LSATs and GPAs than mine after my waitlisting.

I sent the same PS and LORs to both Seattle and Kent (both ranked 77). Seattle (which I like more) WL'd me and Kent is offering 20k/year. I sent a LOCI to SU, but even off the WL, I expect $.

The main question is though...should I call just to check to see if everything was entered correctly.

I guess it wouldn't be a bad idea to at least call to make sure the LOCI was received. At that point you can make sure everything was entered correctly and so forth, but it seems unlikely that the WL was due to some sort of typo. If you show some interest, I think WL---> In w/ money is pretty likely. Best of luck.

Make sure that in whatever communication you have with the admissions office that you're not presumptuous or arrogant (not that you seem that way at all; I just mean that you want to ensure the adcomms don't think that.) Maybe call to make sure your LOCI was received, then mention that you thought your numbers were very competitive for Seattle and that it remains one of your top choices, etc. etc.
