How to handle this?

Post by kalvano » Fri Feb 12, 2010 7:58 pm

I had a meeting with an admissions person at a law school, and received a hand-written note from him. I absolutely cannot read a single word he wrote, but it looks like it might be important.

What's the best way to email and tell him?

First have everyone you know (some of us, included...though posting here probably isn't a good idea) try to decipher it. Then just tell him. "I had trouble reading the note.." but he probably won't remember, so email him a copy when you tell him...

If I'm ever an Addcomm, I'm so going to do that. Hand them a written note that looks very important but is completely indecipherable, and then see which ones have the balls to tell me my handwriting sucks.

Those who do get auto-admitted.

I'd try to get as many people as possible to read it (or as many as it takes) before you do anything else.

Well, I'm on the waitlist and was visiting to try and get off, and he's emailed me since then, so I am curious what merits a hand-written note.

Just shoot him a short professional email.

"Dear Dean X,

I am in receipt of your letter dated XX/XX/XXXX. You write like an infant with Parkinson's. Please resend the aforementioned correspondence either typed or with big boy handwriting."

It will be funny if it turns out that the note says something really irrelevant like your name or his name or the day of the week.

Like others said get someone else to read it.

I've tried. Responses so far have ranged from laughing to wondering if it's in Arabic.

Bring it to a pharmacist, haha, they can read really messed up writing.

But in all seriousness, maybe ask the receptionist to decipher the msg??

I bet Nicolas Cage could crack the code.

I had some friends on another forum take a look at it, and I think we pretty much solved it.

For those curious, I'll PM you a section of it so you can see that I'm not kidding when I say it's bad.

Shoot me a PM if you're interested.

Yeah, I think I got most of the first sentence, but it was all downhill after that.

Call him out on it. I think you'd stick out as the desired minority if you tactfully and respectfully confronted him about his handwriting. Pull it off objectively and in a manner that doesn't call his baby ugly, and you'll be respected, I'd imagine.

But, damnit, bless your heart.
