Is this a case of YP?

Post by SandyC877 » Wed Feb 10, 2010 6:49 pm

It only took 3 weeks for me to get dinged at Pepperdine. Both of my numbers are just above their 75th percentile. My LORs and fine and I have stellar PS. I got into T1 schools ranked way higher than them. I'm clueless as to how this happened... Could it be based on my poor economic status? Controversial sounding elements in the PS? I mean what the heck...?

YP usually doesn't come in the form of a ding. It is usually wait list. If you had a controversial (isn't Pepperdine fundie?) PS, it was probably that plus them knowing they were your safety. The adcom didn't like you, and figured you were a longshot prospect and dinged you.

It's Pepperdine....you might not be christian enough for them. or you might have written a blog post about how ridiculous ken starr is, and maybe he found it.

If you want to go there, you should probably call and see if you can figure out what the problem was. Maybe you can convince them to reconsider. But it doesn't really sound like you want to go there, so don't worry about it.

Yeah I appreciate their time and for considering my application; I am not heart broken. I'm in at a much better school.

I get the impression that anything controversial is a turn-off for them. They do make you write an essay on Christian morals just in the application, right?

There is a separate required essay called "Pepperdine Mission Statement." It's basically "We are a Christian University. How do you like that?" esay
