change Georgetown app. to ED? (171 3.48)
So, I just got my applications in, and got the acknowledgment email from Georgetown. It says they changed their early decision timeline this year to have a deadline of March 1. I hadn't considered applying ED anywhere because I applied in January.
[Background: Aside from Michigan, Georgetown is the most selective school I applied to. I also happen to be particularly interested in Health Law, though not 100% committed, and Georgetown is the only T14 school with a top Health Law program. That means, maybe, that it's my only option for that which also has the other advantages of an elite law school. I can take a day trip to DC this week to check out the school, and if I love it, will want to see about changing to ED.]
--Is it possible to change from regular decision to early decision?
--I assume it would only help my admissions chances, which I'd put at...not auto-anything.
--I doubt that it would hurt my financial aid situation, because I probably wouldn't get merit aid there anyway. (Giving that up at other schools might hurt, but may be worth it for all-around opportunities.)
--Maybe they extended the deadline because they're losing a lot of applicants to other schools and really want to increase their yield rate.
Any comments? Additional things to consider?

if its your top choice i would say go for it. but if you would rather hold out for michigan or another school then dont ED and commit yourself to school dropping in prestige by the minute

why do people think it's dropping in prestige by the minute? (not that I'm likely going to be convinced, but I'm curious)

There's no good answer to this question because the truth is that it's not dropping in prestige. It's been ranked #14 since the dawn of time it seems like, and that ranking is not likely to change soon.Kate07 wrote:why do people think it's dropping in prestige by the minute? You could get in to UVA ED with those numbers, and UVA>GULC.

Yah, if the inclusion of the part time program didn't knock it out of the T-14 nothing will for the foreseeable future. Georgetown has great name recognition nationwide and the numbers of the admitted students are quite a bit higher than other lower T-14's.NU_Jet55 wrote:There's no good answer to this question because the truth is that it's not dropping in prestige. Send an e-mail to admis@law.georgetown.edu and let them know. I believe the deposit is $250, and the deadline for ED apps is March 1st.newyorker88 wrote:I'm considering doing this as well.
