Possible to get rejected from a fee waiver school?
I got an unsolicited fee waiver and a nice letter/package from the dean of admissions inviting me to apply to boston university law school. I applied the next day, but it was still mid-late january. Is it possible to get waitlisted/rejected from a school that gave you a fee waiver and a personal letter/package? Personal experiences are greatly appreciated.

I've been rejected from one and waitlisted at another. 75% of my apps were to schools that gave me a waiver. It's just a cheap and easy way to boost numbers and means nothing.

I received the package from BU as well, and was rejected. It's actually a bit perplexing that the only chance I seem to have, thus far, are at schools where I actuallly paid for the app, and I'm not mad at that! Means I didn't waste my money: waitlist, hold me, just don't reject me. lol.

Short Answer: yes. Schools don't grant fee waivers because they are excited about your application so much as they (to a cynic) do it to boost their 'selectivity' or (to an idealist) to let them choose from as diverse a field as possible. Either way, BU did not send you a fee waiver with the full intention of admitting you.

I got fee waiver invitation from Minnesota and Illinois and i fully expect them to reject me 100%. This is how i see it: its a trade. By waiving my fee, they are substantially paying me $75 to apply and get rejected so as to boost their selectivity rating. In return, i get paid $7.5/hour researching their school and writing an application with due diligence as an exercise in professional responsibility: since i am getting paid, i should do the work.
