Would it be Taboo to....

Post by Onion » Tue Jan 26, 2010 11:05 am

Would it be taboo to call a school I have been accepted to and ask if I will be offered any scholarship money? It's a school I would really like to attend but can not afford to without a little help from the school. Thanks for any advice!

I'd wait to see what they offer first. Calling seems in poor taste. Here's a good article about negotiating merit aid. Good luck

I've successfully called and asked about the financial aid process, complete with other offer in hand. The office I was calling was both polite and receptive to my questions, and told me I would definitely get something, though they didn't give a dollar amount yet. All in all, I was glad to have called.

Don't call and ask if you are getting money. That shows impatience and/or failure to read. The school's web site and any materials you've received from them probably say when you should find out about scholarships. If the information isn't clear, you can call or email and ask them about the timeline for scholarship decisions.

Once they make scholarship decisions they'll tell you pretty quickly.
