hello tls!!!
im wondering if anyone thinks its a good idea to study law in order to be a non-professional lawyer? im lucky enough that if i get a full scholarship to a tier 3 (164 lsat 3.55 gpa ish) i can grad with no debt. my plan would be to get a non-lawyering job at an ngo (not an issue for me, currently employed in an ngo i love) and spend 15 hours a week or so doing pro bono for the national lawyer's guild or some such.
good idea? bad idea? give me your analysis tls

I guess if its something you really want to do, don't mind either putting your career on hold or going through the stress of PT school and FT work...go for it. The law degree would probably be very, vkery useful in the NGO anyways.

I know a guy who owned a construction company and got his JD "to have a better idea of what my lawers were talking about."
So even if you want to get a JD just for fun go right ahead.

It seems like a lot of stress for a degree you don't want to use. A lot of schools offer some sort of Masters in Legal Studies for non-lawyers who want to become acquainted with the law as it applies to their fields. It seems like it might be a better fit for you.
