WL at UVA with 172
And 3.68, from UVA.
Is this normal for this cycle? or just normal? I am thinking it could also be an indication of how they rated me based on my PS and other things in the app. besides the numbers, which is quite likely tbh.

UVA undergrad w/ those numbers and waitlisted? Are you a VA resident? It's definitely YP. I'm sure you have other options though so just write and LOCI and give Jason Dugas a call/email.Puffy wrote:And 3.68, from UVA.

They get so many applicants with high numbers that they couldn't possibly accept them all. So there was probably some factor in your app that made it so they went with another 172 applicant rather than yourself. I wouldn't get too down though, seeing as you will undoubtedly still get a ton of great acceptances.Puffy wrote:And 3.68, from UVA.

UVA is one of the biggest numbers whores out there. Especially since you went there for UG. Unless there is something your not telling us (C&F issues, honor code violation, etc) then it's YP. An LOR writer could have thrown you under the bus.

Write a LOCI and E-mail it tomorrow. Being in-state with a 172 they probably just want to see whether or not you're actually interested in sticking around first. There's no way they should be rejecting you.

I am 31 and finishing up my Ph.D. in literature in a UC. Possibly they saw me as not someone dedicated to law, which is probably true. But I think people underestimate the motivation impending poverty can put on you.
My PS and APP. were very careless. However I am a little miffed that my alma mater turned me down when I have the numbers for them.
Edit: I've been a CA resident since 2002.

Well then I guess that's a testament to the negative effect that a "careless" PS can have on your app. Again, I think that a strong expression of interest to UVA will get you in off that waitlist. Good luck!Puffy wrote:I am 31 and finishing up my Ph.D. in literature in a UC. Possibly they saw me as not someone dedicated to law, which is probably true. I'll just chime in to sympathize. Though it's completely irrelevant to the board, English is one of the worst fields out there now, far worse I'd say than law. Good luck, as a fellow English PHDer, and with your numbers I'm sure you'll end up somewhere great this fall!

I am fully expecting a similar fate. I shot an email to Dugas yesterday that started "Dear Dean Dugas". I am a fucking idiot... but I got accepted to penn today so I could care less now. FYI... he's not a dean. Maybe he will be flattered haha

This is normal YP. Last year, only 4/26 LSN people with 3.5-3.8/172 avoided a YP WL. Why? Because those numbers are perfect for NYU, who took 23/29 of applicants in this range.

With the same GPA range and a 170 LSAT, 35/40 got in. If that's not YP, then I don't know what is.
