Mentioning other acceptances in a LOCI

Post by Kiersten1985 » Wed Jan 20, 2010 11:36 pm

Tried searching for this but couldn't find a good answer.

What are people's thoughts on mentioning other acceptances (particularly those from higher ranked schools) in a LOCI and then discussing why you still find the school that waitlisted you more appealing than said higher ranked schools?

Any other effective ways of mentioning your other acceptances? Is this a no-no all together?

Thaaaanks :D

i have no experience with this stuff, but here's my 2 cents:

obviously u'd be walking a fine line, but maybe something like this:

"while i have received offers from a number of other law schools, including x, y, and z, i conciser law school w to be the best option for me bc etc."

but def. NOT anything like so:

"even though i've been accepted to school x which is higher-ranked, i think school w is better bc etc."

I think that if they are rated higher it is a good thing to say. I would think that they would really appreciate your loyalty, and while that doesn't do too much in admissions, it will put you over an equal applicant who hasn't done this.

Edit: I would mention it in passing, like " I have recieved offers from x and y, but am truly excited to attend z because"

adcoms aren't stupid. they know if a school mentioned is ranked higher than theirs.
