LOR gifts

Post by OneSixtySix » Fri Jan 15, 2010 1:55 am

I'm just wondering what would be an appropriate gift for two very serious professors. I think wine would be too risque, and a funny or personable gift would be somewhat awkward. I was thinking a cap or sweatshirt from the school i commit to, but feel kinda bad about waiting that long to acknowledge my appreciation.

Thoughts?

A book they'd appreciate, preferably one on the subject they taught you and one you think they don't have in their personal library. I mean, I could see a bottle of wine or something being a good gift if you really know them well informally (I've heard of LAC kids going to their professors' houses for dinner, so maybe that could work.) But a book is a good call otherwise. Whatever it is, make sure the thank-you note is heartfelt, expresses your appreciation not just for the recommendation, but for what they taught you.
