Read this before choosing to go to law school
This is a little outdated, but awesome. --LinkRemoved--
OK, so I'm sure I'm not the first to post this, but I have never come across it in my year and a half browsing these forums, and it didn't come to the top of any searches I did, so I ask request preemptively of those of you who will link to another thread, give me a break and don't be a douche.

this reads like the aggregated angst of tls and xoxo, edited together with more punctuation and better sourcing

At the bottom of each page it says:
HeinOnline -- 100 Yale L.J. 1681 1990-1991
A bit outdated, or no?

Some things are (i.e. $50 law school applications), but most still true.hans3n wrote:A bit outdated, or no?

San Francisco Chronicle should be abbreviated to S.F. Chron. in the explanatory parenthetical for the source cited in footnote 12. I'm not sure if I hate myself more for noticing that, or for knowing that other law students will probably check to see if I'm right.

As I noted in the OP, but if you read through it you will notice how little has really changed. For the most part it is still pretty relevant and entertaining.hans3n wrote:At the bottom of each page it says:

This article is likely filled with truth, but couldn't you write a "consider this before choosing to (insert any occupation)"; pointing out the absurb nature of gaining entrance into a particular profession or the ridiculousness of any job in America.

A lot of it is cheesy but I LOVE the section on Critical Legal Studies and Law & Econ. That part is pure awesome.

I've never considered myself an idealist per se, though I'd like to think I'm a decent human being. So tell me: am I really that naive for believing that if you choose the right school and have the right level of commitment, you can actually do something good with a law degree? I mean, really? Am I that starry eyed?

Fun read. Never knew that a law journal could have such tongue and cheek content.

I don't think so. I just think it's necessary to have realistic expectations and focus on the bigger picture.j.wellington wrote:I've never considered myself an idealist per se, though I'd like to think I'm a decent human being. I only read about half of it, but that was hilarious. I'm sure when I get to law school it will make me laugh even harder.

Re: Read this before choosing to go to law school
My favorite part: "After the exam, do not review - or "post-mortem" - the exam with other students. This is very depressing - especially if you can't even agree whether it was a torts exam or a contracts exam".
I laughed out loud.
Also: "The most elitist organization is the law review, which is generally restricted to the top ten percent of the class. These students are given this special honor so that employers will not overlook them just because they are at the top of their class".

Re: Read this before choosing to go to law school
I thought this one was pretty great: "Be sure to avoid law schools wit 'Jr.' in the name, such as 'Leland Stanford Jr. Law School.' These are actually junior law schools." Shows the author is truly a Boalt gradJockin Jay-Z wrote:Description of Boalt on pg. 5: too true.
