When does a dropped class effect LSDAS GPA?

Post by thegor1987 » Tue Jan 05, 2010 4:58 pm

I am wondering, I dropped a class before the final deadline so it's not listed as incomplete on my transcript, but it was past one of the deadlines so it says 'DR' for dropped on my transcript.

I've heard horror stories about GPA drops due to dropped classes am I at risk here to send in an updated transcript?

I have a W on my transcript from a withdraw, and as far as I know, my GPA wasn't affected because my UGPA is the same as my LSDAS GPA.

hmm, I hope my 'DR' is equivalent to a withdraw. I called LSAC today and they were saying a withdraw usually won't effect it.

Did you drop it after the drop period was over? Does it count as 3 credit hours with 0 credit points on your unofficial transcript? if yes then it will count, if not it will not.

Generally they are marked WF.

did you get a complete tuition refund for the withdraw? I am worried because I dropped it late enough that I didn't get half or all the money back for the classes...

At my undergrad, you don't pay per credit, it's just all sort of included together. Four courses is considered the normal load, but you're still considered a full-time student taking only three, so I didn't get money back or anything.

Also, I didn't notice the first time I commented, but I withdrew before the deadline. So it might be different circumstances.

It doesn't say 0 credit points, it says DR in that spot. However, if it said 0 my GPA would be already lowered by transcript. What I am worried is LSAC thinking they can lower GPA's when the university did not. This is the horror story, people posting on here an LSDAS GPA lower than their transcripts because of the dropped class, even though the dropped class didn't lower their GPA on transcript

LSAC also told me they can't tell me until they get the transcript and apply their rules

The LSDAS will recognize it as either a punitive or non-punitive withdrawal. If your transcript does not show any grade, it could be non-punitive, but check with your school to see if they're giving you any sort of grade for the class. As someone said above, the punitive Withdrawal-Fail or WF is what will drag down the LSDAS GPA. That's how LSAC explained it when I called them.
I had some W's on my transcript w/ no grades and they did not affect my GPA at all (then again, I withdrew before the deadlines, so it will all come down to whether or not your school is putting a grade down).

And did you withdraw early enough to get a tuition refund?

See at my university their are many deadlines, I've dropped a class once before the first deadline and got all the money back and nothing shows on my transcript. However, for these ones last semester I didn't get money back and it shows on my transcript. But it was dropped before the deadline were I would get an incomplete or something very bad

I had a WD that didn't get refunded, but none of our WD's did we get tuition back on.

So asking that will not help, it is if the school counts it as a WF that matters or as another poster said punitive, call the school.

What if it's a non-punitive WF? Will it be counted as an F?

i did this with a (1 credit) class my freshman year. dropped it about a month in, about a day before the final drop date. it was marked on my transcript but i was not penalized through LSAC and my LSDAS GPA did not go down.
