Sent the wrong personal statement
I know I am going to get a lot of crap for posting this, but I'm going to do it anyway. I sent the wrong personal statement to a T50 school. The name of the school happens to be very similar to another school in the T50. I clicked on the wrong icon when uploading the form. When I was proofreading my brain must have accepted the similar name as the correct one. I was submitting at 3 AM and quite tired. Anyway I had chanced my self at about 40%. I'm thinking now that this will decline to 0%. Does everyone agree?

Send the correct PS and ask them to replace it. Most likely they won't even look at the bad one. I did this with a school where I somehow left off the "why X". No big, if you take quick action.

However, if they do look at it, then your presumption is correct, according to multiple interviews.
It significantly decreases admission chances.

Yeah you might as well. At least give yourself a little shot at redemption after such an epic fail.xanderdellus wrote:Send the correct PS and ask them to replace it. I kid though, good luck with it.

I did this with WUSTL and University of Washington. I got into WUSTL (the one who received the wrong statement) with scholarship.
I assume it happens to them fairly often and they are probably used to it by now. Clearly they either didn't read my PS very closely, or they just don't care.

How long ago was this? I feel like you can probably get away with sending them another copy. It might be worth it.newlaw77 wrote:I know I am going to get a lot of crap for posting this, but I'm going to do it anyway. I sent the wrong personal statement to a T50 school. I agree that you should at least /try/ to fix it. You can't hurt your chances any further by sending in the corrected one (unless the names are so similar that they wouldn't have noticed, but I kind of doubt it).

Just call and ask them to replace it. They will. They usually won't get rid of the old statement, but they know mistakes happen and that you are applying to multiple schools. As long as you didn't do something silly like write that both were your absolute first choice, I doubt it will be a big factor.

Re: Sent the wrong personal statement
Hey, I did something similar. To those who suggested e-mailing;;; do you suggest sending the correct PS in an attachment, or to wait first for a response saying it's okay to e-mail it?

Re: Sent the wrong personal statement
I would just send it along with the email.
It's harder to overlook or say no if you have already just assumed they will do it.

Re: Sent the wrong personal statement
I sent the wrong gpa addendum to all 16 schools....
emailed all 16 and got about 12 responses (but this only happened today) responses within the day.....but dont get me wrong, it was a massive pain in the ass...admin people at law schools seem like a pretty forgiving bunch
