Best school in the state!
FSU is still the best school in the state...but let's remember something

both UF and FSU aren't that bad in terms of both costs and employment outcomes if you're going for FL....even a half ride at any of the schools is a good decision IMO if you want to remain in Florida and already qualify as a resident, understand that you won't be getting biglaw, and just want to practice as a lawyer.

runinthefront wrote:^^ that's a very, very important observation. Yes,I agree completely. You have to be a FL resident for a school like that to make sense.
Stetson and FIU would then also make sense if the above assumptions are true, assuming they offered you scholarship that is comparable to FSU as the employment prospects of the three school are comparable.

Reg schools do serve a purpose so long as you go for super cheap.

Can't believe Florida is at a 158. So in the third most populous state in the country (or soon to be third), not one of its many law schools has a median breaking 160. Has FSU released yet?

100% agreed. I'm looking for a full scholly outside the T14 myself. But the students that end up paying my tuition (and others) are making terrible life decisions.
Definitely, and I've realized at my nonT14 how many actually are paying sticker. Even in state here is ridiculous.
I have encountered a few at my school and am confused because we are the money whore so I figured you would only come with $$$.
A lot of people don't realize that the vast majority of people who go to law school pay full price. Without them, almost every school wouldn't be able to give out even a small fraction that they give out now.

There's definitely an obvious selection bias on here, but I guess it seemed so irrational otherwise. Then I realized there are people taking out 200k in loans for a UT Law degree. SMH

Florida students are boned as far as not having a strong regional to go to. Strange for such a big state.

UF or FSU on full ride would be the only way to go, and given those two have about 10-15 % BL/FC and only 2/3 JD FT-LT neither is all that appealing.

UF was stingy on money this year. They're playing the game like it's 2006. Maybe now they'll get the memo.

One also has to wonder where the alumni are while the school continues to plunge. They used to crank out 400+/year.

Well.. it's not too bad compared to other law schools, but it's still pretty terrible.

If I'm paying $60,000 in resident tuition plus not working for three years, I'd better have more than just a 2/3 shot at actually becoming a lawyer.

They do. And they're all awful. Just because WUSTL is less terrible than SLU, that doesn't mean WUSTL isn't terrible.

Spending three years of your life making no money, gaining no work experience, paying X amount of tuition dollars, all for a 2/3 chance of becoming a lawyer? And a 20%+ unemployment rate after nine months? That's crap, sorry.

Not making some huge point, just reacting to
Most kids I know going to these regional schools are definitely on the government/PI/PD/DA track or they want to go work with their parents at a small, 5-20 lawyer firm.

There's a wealth of legal jobs outside of BL. 70% of FSU grads are in LT/FT legal positions...which is not outrageous.
Doesn't matter what you're aiming for. Only 2/3 of people getting a lawyer job is real bad.

And to pick a nit. Berk had 87% lawyer jobs and only 8% unemployment last year. Not sure where the 15% unemployed is coming from.

Florida State seems like your best bet if your goal is Florida State government, which probably isn't a bad gig. But otherwise you're likely heading towards 2-10 attorney firm. And I bet most people don't have parents with a nice job lined up for them.

I agree

all I'm saying is that if a 66%-70% change of actual becoming a practicing lawyer is real bad

there's less than 15 schools that aren't real bad

I'm not even arguing that you're wrong

I'm just saying that using your logic

there's only 15 schools that aren't real bad

so you can't single out 2-3
yeah that's exactly what im saying. im singling out the the appx 185 aba accredited law schools that are sps.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
