This might be a stupid question, but to those who have successfully solicited Michigan: did you ask for a merit-based or needs-based waiver?
I'd really like to ask based on merit, but I'm afraid of embarrassing myself since I'm a point under their LSAT median.

Don't feel like you're embarrassing yourself. The worst thing they can do is say no, and if you get into the school and end up matriculating, you never deal with admissions again. Ask for the waiver.xacrasiaa wrote:This might be a stupid question, but to those who have successfully solicited Michigan: did you ask for a merit-based or needs-based waiver?

No more uncouth than schools openly saying they are seeking candidates from as diverse backgrounds as possible...IMHOgamerish wrote:Should you include URM status in solicitation emails or is that uncouth?

For the splitters among us - is it legit to solicit a waiver without mentioning my (mildly embarrassing) GPA? ie, send in an email similar to the format in the OP casually omitting my 3.2x?

Re: 2015-2016 Fee Waivers
I received unsolicited fee waiver from UPenn. I was encouraged and wrote to another mid T14 requesting for fee waivers... they replied and asked for more of my background and why I am interested in their school bla bla... really hard for international students to earn that $80 (forgot the exact number) it seems

I think Penn is the only T14 so far to have offered unsolicited waivers for internationals. Presumably they searched CRS entirely based on LSAT.

It can also be something likescone wrote:I think Penn is the only T14 so far to have offered unsolicited waivers for internationals. Presumably they searched CRS entirely based on LSAT.
Code: Select all
if ( LSAT > 170 && ( GPA > 3.7 || GPA == null ) ) return WAIVER;
return NO;

Unsolicited from William & Mary, W&L, WUSTL, UF, Iowa, UCDavis, Richmond . Hoping for unsolicited from GWU.
Solictied one from Syracuse because applying to JD/MPA program.
Anyone get an unsolicited from GWU this cycle? And if so, then when?

Ooo that's interesting. Do you have a US GPA? If not, how did you set up CRS? Did you put in any information about class rank or anything like that?doctorofoz wrote:I am an international and I also got unsolicited fee waivers from UVA, Duke(pt), Michigan.scone wrote:I think Penn is the only T14 so far to have offered unsolicited waivers for internationals. Entirely possible. It behooves schools to have more applications anyway: keeps their acceptance numbers down. The worst thing they can say is no.
