It was common for schools to provide only splits last year. We only had all the medians after the rankings came out in march.

Yes. NYU, Penn, Harvard, and a few others only reported 25/75 percentilesbanjo wrote:It was common for schools to provide only splits last year. We only had all the medians after the rankings came out in march.

I posted a question about Harvard's median this year, and some people were mocking me. I wanted to see the official info on their median, and it wasn't on their website.

BC didn't release the median lsat/gpa yesterday during orientation but class size dropped from 245 to 230.

Yeah, it usually seems to be that 50th and 75th are closer together, and the 25th lags behind by a few points (like with 163/167/169)Regulus wrote:That is really interesting that half of the people who will be attending Berkeley for the Class of 2016 had either a 166, 167, 168 or 169 LSAT score. That has got to be one of the smallest 25th~75th spreads of any school, and you can't get any smaller than that in terms of difference between 25th (166) and 50th (167) percentile scores (well, I suppose you could if they were the same number, but you get my point).

The spread is actually identical to that of Cornell's last year. 166-167-169.shifty_eyed wrote:Yeah, it usually seems to be that 50th and 75th are closer together, and the 25th lags behind by a few points (like with 163/167/169)Regulus wrote:That is really interesting that half of the people who will be attending Berkeley for the Class of 2016 had either a 166, 167, 168 or 169 LSAT score. Updated with numbers from Florida, Gonzaga, and Memphis, for all those who care. Please post numbers for other schools if/when you have them so I can update further.

Not much to report from Cornell's orientation.
Class size is supposed to be 197, but Dean Geiger said 2 people hadn't shown up yet, so I suppose that number might change.

UVA drops 22 students, Michigan drops 29 students, and both of them lose a point.

In general are these dropping LSAT medians going to benefit splitters, or do you think it will be a wash because they are still trying to maintain GPA's and reducing class sizes?

should be taken with a pinch of salt. the degree of the 'benefit' is highly debatable.Nova wrote:Less high scoring applicants benefits splittersesypsylmnsqsy wrote:In general are these dropping LSAT medians going to benefit splitters, or do you think it will be a wash because they are still trying to maintain GPA's and reducing class sizes?
remember: splitters gonna split

My notion was that drops were not going to be as awful as was being predicted because those schools didn't seem particularly desperate for median or above median LSATs. These don't look like results of schools tremendously worried about dropping medians:longlivetheking wrote:mono you're gonna get slaughtered in the median guessing game.Monochromatic Oeuvre wrote:UVA drops 22 students, Michigan drops 29 students, and both of them lose a point.

Less high scoring applicants probably benefits everyone, since it redefines what a "high score" means in relation to the best schools admitting the candidates with the best credentials.Nova wrote:Less high scoring applicants benefits splittersesypsylmnsqsy wrote:In general are these dropping LSAT medians going to benefit splitters, or do you think it will be a wash because they are still trying to maintain GPA's and reducing class sizes?

fair point, i think with synchronized drops in lsat median no dean is gonna get fired. i think, as discussed in the case of virginia, schools are choosing to save some money, instead of splurging on high lsats.
conclusion: if you're paying sticker and have a high lsat and your gpa isn't shit, auto-admit.

Re: C/O 2016 median lsat/gpa/class size
Important distinction: That fact that there are fewer 170+ students benefits splitters, who become a more scarce commodity. However, the fact itself that LSAT medians are declining is harmful to splitters. Suppose you're a 3.5/173 looking to go to UVA. The median drop is certainly a negative thing for you. You are still above the LSAT median and below the GPA median. However, all of the sudden a whole bunch of 169 students with better GPAs than yours now have a median LSAT, and are thus better candidates for admission than you next cycle, when they wouldn't have been last cycle. The great splitter hope was that schools would relax GPA requirements in order to maintain their medians, but three years of data suggest that didn't really happen, with the exception of NU's "absolutely anyone with a 170" policy last cycle.Nova wrote:Less high scoring applicants benefits splittersesypsylmnsqsy wrote:In general are these dropping LSAT medians going to benefit splitters, or do you think it will be a wash because they are still trying to maintain GPA's and reducing class sizes?
