Re: OLD SCHOOL (must be 30 and over ITT)
I am an old, too - I'll be starting as a 1L at age 38. I look young-ish for my age and I don't have a spouse or kids, so I'll probably relate OK to my fellow students. There will be awkward moments of obvious age differences that will pop up, but meh, I'm OK with it.
I'm so glad I'm doing law school in my 30s. I wasn't disciplined in my 20s (that's just me - there's lots of disciplined twentysomethings out there), but I'm ready for it now. Let's do this!
Damn. I just broke my hip. I have to slow down.

Not to stereotype, since not all of us oldies are alike....but for those of you married and with an income from your spouse...are you even bothering to apply for any need-based financial aid? I assume it will be a waste of time since my husband has a good income, but I haven't seen any strict income levels quoted. And of course most of the information talks about the applicant's parents and what-not.
I'm hoping for merit-based aid, but obviously the better the school, the less helpful that gets. And I am very afraid of coming up against the age-old conundrum of settling for a less-good school, vs. debt for a better school. With 10 less years to reap the benefits of the debt, it may seem like the chips start to fall toward the former, but I've still got pride! Oh, and I really suck at looking for jobs, so I need all the help I can get in the form of reputation and networks.

My wife makes a decent income as a teacher but not enough to pay the rest of the bills not paid by scholarships. I'm applying for need based aid so I can get some loans if nothing else. Its all the same federal form. Why have you got to lose?pkt63 wrote:Not to stereotype, since not all of us oldies are alike....but for those of you married and with an income from your spouse...are you even bothering to apply for any need-based financial aid? Can I join? I'm 28. Just old enough to not really relate to all the kids, but not old enough to be a cool non-trad.

My wife is a teacher, too. We were dual-income before I went back to school, so I have some loans to balance it out.

Re: OLD SCHOOL (must be 30 and over ITT)
My wife works, but that one income is substantially less than the COA of a T14. And I have two kids and a mortgage. Dunno how they'll look at that; I guess I look richer on paper than someone who has no income and no expenses outside of the COA. But I don't lose by asking.pkt63 wrote:Not to stereotype, since not all of us oldies are alike....but for those of you married and with an income from your spouse...are you even bothering to apply for any need-based financial aid? Yeah, don't count yourself out before you start. It's free to apply, and it won't hurt you, so why not apply? Government loans > private loans.

I'll have my son print out the list and mail it to you so you can tape it up to your monitor.

Re: OLD SCHOOL (must be 30 and over ITT)
HAHAHAH! My dad (he'll be 80 this fall) told me recently that "LOL" was
actually coined by a former editor of the New Yorker. It meant "Little
Old Ladies", as in, "we aren't writing this magazine for Little Old Ladies in
Des Moines."
lol
I have to send that list to my dad and step mom (she texts me all the time but then
again she's a young 'un of only 76)

Is that how you send a text message, from your monitor?ArghItsBlarg wrote:I'll have my son print out the list and mail it to you so you can tape it up to your monitor.

I thought a text message was a letter, only typed instead of written longhand.

You know you belong in the OLD SCHOOL thread if......
1. You have fond memories of playing Oregon Trail in grade school.

Yeah when I think about it now there we definitely some morbid parts there. At the end didn't you have the choice to continue on the road or raft the river? I always chose to raft the river. Also, I always thought that game was only in Oregon (where I lived)...turns out it was nationwide!Hey-O wrote:And your family members always died.rinkrat19 wrote:It seemed like such an epic game...except you could get from St. Louis to Oregon in a 30-minute lunch recess.lolschool2011 wrote:You know you belong in the OLD SCHOOL thread if......

Re: OLD SCHOOL (must be 30 and over ITT)
bonus points for arguing with parents that purchase of MTV stock would be a good investment...lost the argument when it went public around 15 a share but never let dad live it down when they were bought out just a few years later at a little over double that amount. Never had to be questioned again after that when I wanted to move funds to purchase stock.oldhippie wrote:2.
