Re: Law School Predictor: Version 2.6 released Oct. 04, 2009
I have to say, I just love the LSP. Aside from being a useful resource, it's an unlimited source of science fiction fun. I can't stop plugging in my actual numbers and then comparing them to dozens of alternate histories (What would it be like if I got these grades this term, or these grades, or if I dropped this term, or this course, or was a URM under any of these circumstances?) As a crazy splitter and transfer student, there are lots of opportunities for this kind of thing. It may be unhealthy.

YCR, you may want to consider putting a disclaimer on LSP stating that you're not responsible for the effects of overexposure (including obsession, anxiety, nausea, anger, hypertension, and intent to tort people).Bilbort wrote:I have to say, I just love the LSP. Too late, I'm suing you. Just as soon as I finish calculating what my UGPA would have been if I had extrapolated it from my kindergarten grades.YCrevolution wrote:I think I'll add a forum selection clause, too, and a disclaimer disclaiming any type of warranty.vanwinkle wrote:YCR, you may want to consider putting a disclaimer on LSP stating that you're not responsible for the effects of overexposure (including obsession, anxiety, nausea, anger, hypertension, and intent to tort people).Bilbort wrote:I have to say, I just love the LSP. USC is another one-off type of school. My 164/3.85 has me at strongly consider but, in reality, I'm a reject or WL. They have a nearly impenetrable wall at 165.

Except that the LSAC calculator does not include information for schools without published admission index formulas (Like a lot of the T14). Also YCrevolution took into account other factors for schools, such as unofficial cutoffs, in adjusting the stats models to fit closer to the actual results for schools.Kant wrote:You guys know that LSAC has a predictor based on last yrs cycle.

I'm pretty sure we'll applying for 2010 admission, right?Kant wrote:ntzsch wrote:i think it is based on 2 years ago, "Likelihood of admission in Fall 2008." i dont know it is unclear to my humble RC skills.Kant wrote:You guys know that LSAC has a predictor based on last yrs cycle.

I'm actually applying for fall 2009 admission. Still hoping someone will drop out after midterms so I can get their seat off the waitlist.Helmholtz wrote: I'm pretty sure we'll applying for 2010 admission, right?

I think it overestimates. You and I have nearly identical numbers. I don't think I have a 41% chance at Georgetown.ntzsch wrote:is it possible that LSP is more predictive for certain # sets. my 164/3.88 is really optimistic. like "admit" at Emory and 5X% at Cornell. but i might just underestimate the power of GPA?
edit: or does my reverse splitter status hurt prediction accuracy a whole lot?

The LSAC predictor is just......odd. I'm not sure why it gives me a ~25% at Penn, but a better than a 50% at NYU.ntzsch wrote: yea, that is what i was thinking. but, the only thing is it should say "Likelihood of admission FOR Fall 2008"

It says I have a better chance at Harvard than Penn.Helmholtz wrote:The LSAC predictor is just......odd.
