Not sure how accurate this is, but here is a recent article ranking mid-career salaries for graduate schools. http://www.payscale.com/college-salary-report/grad

Why would the school do that when the Feds will just give them 100% of the money up front?bpolley0 wrote:I have an honest question. if these are even remotely correct, why would anyone ever borrow money from the federal government to pay for their schooling? If the supposed median salary coming out of law schools is 115k why wouldn't you just negotiate with the school that you will pay them back based on your income once you graduate until you paid them back?Mack.Hambleton wrote:They're shitJurisDoctorSeuss wrote:Not sure how accurate this is, but here is a recent article ranking mid-career salaries for graduate schools. http://www.payscale.com/college-salary-report/grad

Any thoughts as to why a T-35 school like Moritz (Ohio State) wouldn't make the list at all? Maybe I missed it, but I couldn't find it among the 600+ in that list. Seems odd to me...

And as long as the Feds back it, law school isn't a market, because they can charge anything and have Grade-A dipshits sign up for the Feds to pay off Boomer admins. Take them out of the equation and listen for the pin drop when a student tries to find a private lender for $250k worth of Touro.Tiago Splitter wrote:Why would the school do that when the Feds will just give them 100% of the money up front?bpolley0 wrote:I have an honest question. if these are even remotely correct, why would anyone ever borrow money from the federal government to pay for their schooling? Two schools ranked #82 have class sizes out.
Hawaii
https://www.law.hawaii.edu/article/it%E ... admissions
The entering class includes 63 full-time students; 23 evening part time students; 11 Masters degree (LLM) students; 6 transfer, visiting and exchange students; and 3 Advanced JD students. [no idea how they classify the Advanced JD, so it's either 89 (-31) or 92 (-28)]
89 (-31)
Cincinnati

So a Cooley law degree would net you more money than a Harvard Masters lol.JurisDoctorSeuss wrote:Not sure how accurate this is, but here is a recent article ranking mid-career salaries for graduate schools. http://www.payscale.com/college-salary-report/grad

This is 100% accurate. A J.D. from Emory is the most valuable graduate degree.JurisDoctorSeuss wrote:Not sure how accurate this is, but here is a recent article ranking mid-career salaries for graduate schools. http://www.payscale.com/college-salary-report/grad

They're obviously not correct. Look at the sample size from which those figures are drawn. A lot of the schools on that list have like 3-4 alumni reporting salaries.bpolley0 wrote:I have an honest question. if these are even remotely correct, why would anyone ever borrow money from the federal government to pay for their schooling? The reason some schools aren't even on there is because they have 0 alumni reporting salaries.
Lists like that are going to be naturally deceptive, because they won't count all the people who graduated from those places and never got career-type jobs that are worth reporting on sites like Glassdoor.
The Department of Education is the only place that has those stats...everyone who has federal loans at least. But they won't release them. I wonder why.

I feel like this quote is very relevant to the accuracy of this report.
"It should be noted that because most top-tier law firms have standard salary practices, especially for entry-level law positions, most of PayScale's data comes from law alumni who work at second-tier or public law firms."
The report is, to be kind, utter rubbish.

Re: CLASS OF 2018 MEDIANS! (LSAT/GPA/Class Size)
yeah it sucks and law school is a bad idea for a majority of people but right now the government makes money off of graduate student loans. Most people will still pay most if not all of their loans over the course of 20 years on PAYE, which contributes to the lack of inertia towards actually fixing things.
But yes when you look at the situation for any individual looking at law school it's pretty shitty, especially without a strong GPA.
