I got the same stock lying email from them. They only offer unsolicited merit based.

The one sent today came from "sbeckman@law.utexas.edu" if that helps.

BU did that to me. Told me they didnt do merit based solicited and turned around and gave another person one within an hour. Sucks more because they're my alma mater (though I should know about their shadiness by now...)

and for all who are fretting, I will still be updating the spreadsheet. Classes are starting to pick up, though, so it might be more of a twice a week or three times a week update now.

Added two new columns in the spreadsheet:

The first is for ASW dates, stipends, deposit deadlines & amounts, orientation dates and matriculation dates. Please post details here or PM me as you get accepted (some of you Duke PT'rs should have some info by now).

The second is a list of TLS users ATTENDING a particular institution. Please PM me if you would like to be included in the list, it is completely voluntary.

I'm also renaming the thread to Law School Application Super Thread

Every time I see this thread get bumped I think that NYU sent out fee waivers. Am disappoint.

Also, I got USC unsolicited fee waiver today. I think people have already reported USC but I didn't see anyone else say they got one today. Will not be applying just letting people know.

I'll do y'all one better. In the space of three hours I got two separate emails from two different people at Georgetown. The first said I couldn't get a waiver, the next said I had been granted one. The second person was right.

From the sounds of it, they must only do need-based (even though they mention strong academic record???), unless you are selected for the CRS waiver
After attempting to solicit fee waivers from like 30 schools, the "We do not offer merit based fee waivers" line is when they are just NOT interested in your numbers. Often these same schools do offer (even solicited) merit based waivers to other people. Even T14s do this.

My guess is it strings you along just enough that they can collect a $100 app fee from you while still getting to reject you for a selectivity boost

I got that response from Texas when I tried to solicit one a few weeks ago, but as I mentioned I got an unsolicited fee waiver from them this morning. You could be right, but there are at least some exceptions.

My guess is that there are certain form letters that each school sends out when they don't want to give out their solicited waivers. They differ slightly from school to school. Some schools say they don't give out waivers, others say they only go out through CRS, etc.

My question is, in the age of the internet, why the fuck would a school lie about merit waivers? A simple "sorry, but you do not qualify for a merit-based waiver, but you may still be a strong applicant and should consider applying" email would be fine with me.

Lying just sets me off a lot, and I'm sure it does to others as well.

Has ANYONE requested a merit-based fee waiver and been told that they simply don't qualify?

Missed the UT boat as well.

Also missed Columbia and Chicago.

Still don't know why.

I actually e-mailed Columbia, and they said it's all done through CRS, and if I qualify they will be in touch with me. I suspect there will be another round going out even before the October test. Never got an e-mail from UT either.

It does seem like there's something at play other than numbers. I'm not surprised I missed CLS, but I didn't get Chi or Penn and I know there are non-urms who have lower numbers than me who got them.

That definitely could be true (and I didn't get Penn either). But I recall seeing someone posting his actual e-mail from Columbia, and it specified that the waiver was solely based on his LSAT score. Hmmmm.

Missed UT.

Also missed Columbia. Thank you for taking the initiative and e-mailing them, but I think I'm just going to submit this weekend if it doesn't show up tomorrow. I don't want to be waiting here in October saying, "surely Columbia will send me my waiver any day now."

I got one last year with a 169, but have received nothing this year even though I improved my score(barely)

Hi I have a question. If you get rejected from an early decision (or sent to the regular cycle) that means you cannot do another early decision to a school if the spreadsheet says "No" under column K? I did not know this.

Yes but I'd just double check with the school to make sure.

More importantly, read the ED contract when you go to submit the app at both schools. School A might let you apply to other ED programs if you're denied but School B might not (and vice versa). I know CCN don't allow multiple EDs in a single cycle (so if you ED somewhere else and get rejected you have to RD CCN and vice versa if you ED CCN and get rejected).

UVA, Penn and Mich seem to allow multiple EDs, but again - read the contracts.

Has anybody received a waiver from Cornell or NU since the beginning of September? I wasn't signed up for CRS yet when the first waves went out so I'm hoping to catch the second waves if they come.

I didn't hear from Cornell either by e-mail or snail mail about a fee waiver, but I did have one hidden, so that may be worth checking out.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
