Re: Law School AppReqs & Fee Waiver Tracker 2012-2013
Is anyone else who is 1+ years out of school getting a ton of emails about law school deans/officials going to their campuses? I don't know how to indicate more clearly on CRS that I am no longer in the same state.

That's strange. I have a high 3.9 and a high 160, but missed the boat on the Columbia fee waiver and figured it was because of my LSAT score.

This is not to say this is why TonTon received a fee waiver -- maybe she has a high GPA -- but some law schools offer fee waivers to people they don't expect to be admitted, so that they can deny those people and increase their "selectivity."

LOL, users on TLS never attempt to sugar coat anything. But yeah it could be that. I do have a high GPA though, and I'm currently in a masters prog at Cambridge, aaand i'm black African, so it could also be a confluence of factors, or I could just be the one of the first few, and you might all get your waivers next week.

Re: Law School AppReqs & Fee Waiver Tracker 2012-2013
Haha well I'm only applying to schools that I receive waivers from with the exception of Stanford and Berkeley. So far I've received waivers from every school I've wanted to apply to, and then Columbia rolled around... So I guess their "selectivity" will go down in my instance because they'll have 1 less application to deny.

Just received unsolicted University of Texas fee waiver by email. I'm pleasantly surprised; I didn't think they gave those out.

Thought this was interesting: "To accept our fee waiver offer, you must apply by November 1, 2012, which is our early decision deadline. Our early decision admission program is nonbinding."

Yeah I guess it's an EA like Cornell. Is there any point in applying even with the waiver if there is absolutely no way I want to work in Texas?R86 wrote:Ditto.EttaJ wrote:Just received unsolicted University of Texas fee waiver by email. I'm pleasantly surprised; I didn't think they gave those out.

Looks like I missed the UT boat. Makes me sad because I'm in state and it's near the top of my (realistic) list. Oh well, at least I'm poor enough to get dat LSAC waiver for everywhere else.

No No No, Texas is lying to you guys. Here is an e-mail I received from Texas recently:
Hello,
UT Law does not offer a merit-based application fee waiver. Our application fee waiver is based on financial need and is separate from the LSAT fee waiver.
Need-based requests for waiver of the application fee are considered only if (a) financial need is demonstrated, (b) the applicant presents a competitive academic record, (c) the Law School has a clear interest in admitting the student, and (d) the limit on fee waivers has not been reached. To apply for this type of fee waiver, an applicant must submit an Application for Fee Waiver.
Thank you for your interest in The University of Texas School of Law.

From the sounds of it, they must only do need-based (even though they mention strong academic record???), unless you are selected for the CRS waiverjustonemoregame wrote:Should I e-mail a different person and ask for a waiver lol?

I tried to solicit a waiver from them a few weeks ago and got an email back saying "We don't play that shit, yo. Pay up."
Today I received a nice unsolicited one from them.
