Re: Who's Outperformed Their Numbers?
Anyone have any idea what's considered outperforming for URMs? Or is too random to say? Stanford is the dream but my GPA is just below median (as in less than .1 below it). If I don't score at or above their median LSAT I'm curious if I have any chance at all from a numbers point of view.

Re: Who's Outperformed Their Numbers?
K-JD URM, not AA. GPA at 3.8, LSAT at 161. On reserve at Columbia, IN at Berkeley with $$, IN at UMich (withdrew before negotiating for scholarship), IN at Duke with $$, IN everywhere I applied below T14 with $$$ or $$ (one exception b/c i withdrew early).
Unique personal background, slightly above average softs.
Did I outperform? Lsn makes me think I did because I received mostly the best outcomes for my numbers.

You were well above their 75th percentiles for both LSAT and GPA. In no way, shape or form was your acceptance a valid example of "outperforming your numbers".Manali wrote:A. Re: Who's Outperformed Their Numbers?
Well then, it sounds like your Drexel acceptance was more a case of "outperforming your personality/application" than outperforming your numbers.Manali wrote:I was rejected from Temple, Villanova, and Rutgers Camden, even though my numbers were well above their 75th percentiles for LSAT and GPA.ScottRiqui wrote:You were well above their 75th percentiles for both LSAT and GPA. Re: Who's Outperformed Their Numbers?
FWIW I had a 3.0ugpa/173, LoR from 2 t-14 law profs, 2 years work experience, 3.8 gpa in an MA, and first authorship on a paper in a high impact journal, and got w/l from Mich. Of course I only applied in January and got in to higher ranked schools I applied to earlier. Such is the life of a splitter.kwabedi wrote:+1Clearly wrote:I would have bet everything I have that you'd get into Michigan.Bluex12 wrote:I guess generally it's much easier than in years past. Surprised to see a T14 acceptance at all honestly, I figured I sunk my T14 hopes with my crap GPA. But I guess LSAT can be a big game-changer!
but i would go even farther and say you would have gotten in to Michigan with a 3.0

Care to share? Just interested in what helped you overcome the LSAT score. If not that is cool, I obviously respect that as well.

Re: Who's Outperformed Their Numbers?
You aren't bragging at all. Congratulations, it sounds to me like you are a well rounded individual and earned it through your accomplishments outside of a standardized test, not that your score is bad by any means.BillClinton Jr wrote:Pretty basic stuff honestly, trust me I know I outperformed my numbers and I do feel bad for folks with better numbers who are looking at my outcomes and didn't have similar/better outcomes. This is just for info: not to brag at all. Got a Fulbright...turned it down. Published research. Several semesters as a research assistant. Worked directly with the dean and Vice Provost of my university on several projects and faculty search and hiring panels. Student Government judge (had a court branch). Always worked during school. Graduated Early. First gen. Dad's an immigrant and former military. Really well written essays and strong letters of rec (one from a UChicago Law alum who was a prof - doubt that matters). AmeriCorps. Idk I just think I had strong essays and interviewed well for the places that required them.asdfdfdfadfas wrote:.................. and thennnnn?BillClinton Jr wrote:meh...idk about amazing. Go Figure, there is more to life than comparing yourself to others based on how well you did on a standardized test.
Cheers and thank you for sharing.
