Sorry, I didn't realize English was your second language.earthabides wrote:I was aware and was justifying my post.. RC fail
Nobody here says you can make "bank" at your average boring office job. They just say it's a hell of a lot better and more sustainable as a lifestyle than biglaw and doesn't cost you six figures in debt + 3 years of lost earnings and promotion.earthabides wrote: people here make it seem like there are these other jobs where you don't have to work long hours and have shitty bosses while also making bank

Maybe just don't worry so much about "making bank?"earthabides wrote:

But you're making up the comparison.

No one is saying such a thing exists.earthabides wrote: SOME posts make the mistake of comparing high-debt forced biglaw to these imaginary cushy office jobs that are attainable by everyone with a BA
It's really a matter of saying, even if law school is your only path to 160k, "what does it profit a man to gain the whole world and lose his soul." (to the extent that a measly 160k with 2-300k in debt is the whole world.)

i disagree i think a lot of people come here in mind with how to get a steady reliable income or how to make a shitload of money and be powerful with your money. neither of which law really accomplishes anymore. as has been discussed, there are better ways to do both.

About that. On TLS I see a bunch of "I know a guy who is working IT making as much money as I am in biglaw, and he's younger than me"JohannDeMann wrote:there are better ways to do both
Is this the same as "I know a guy who graduated from a TTT and is now at a V5 firm"?
or is it pretty common for IT/consulting/whatever outcomes to be significantly better than law?

Nearly 50% of the people who graduated law school last year did not get jobs as attorneys. That's why. And no they didn't get some cool consulting job. Most of them are screwed. Tens of thousands in loans and a shitty low paying job/unemployment

a budget is a set number of hours you can bill on a project.
if you go over that number of hours the partner comes over to your cube and rapes you verbally.
the matter was more complex than anticipated? too bad, cut your time cause the client doesnt feel like getting billed extra for bullshit that they don't care about. try hitting charge goals when you eat half the hours you work.
ETA: i was probably exaggerating when I said half. I would say on average i eat (cut) about 25-35% of the hours i work.

Yes but this statistic includes every ABA approved law school. This is top law schools. I doubt we're concerned with anything less than T1. A majority of the posters here are T14. We need to stop comparing the best outcomes from business school with the worst outcomes from law school.Okie25 wrote:Nearly 50% of the people who graduated law school last year did not get jobs as attorneys. Though the T14 posters are probably some of the most vocal, I doubt a majority of posters here attend/attended a T14.PeanutsNJam wrote:Yes but this statistic includes every ABA approved law school. Also, people ask about Tier 2 schools here pretty frequently. A lot of Tier 1 grads end up without legal jobs & T14 people strike out all the time, so the statistic is appropriate in a thread titled "Don't go to law school" since the lack of gainful legal employment is a big reason not to go to law school.
