An employment score is different than an employment rate no? Something is fishy with the numbers on the law school numbers webstie

There are all kinds of ways to fudge stats to mislead people without actually lying. For example, if you're just looking at "% of grads employed", that's misleading. It's probably counting graduates who are working at Wendy's as being employed in "business." You need to look at the percentage employed in jobs that require a law degree, and of those, how many are not going solo.

thank you for useful advice, its really hard to decipher what schools will provide me the best opportunities... according to the link posted above sc has a really high employment score, but being ranked only at 93 it can't be all that great.TheSpanishMain wrote:Assuming not a troll...Knp wrote:CoffeeIsLife wrote:That is not true. Re: Full Ride or wait..
By and large the only schools that do a "great" job employing their students are located within the top 14 ranked schools
Also, rankings are meaningless for the most part and not representative of how good a school is or placement for its students

South Carolina actually isn't a bad choice, if you can go for free and are fine with being geographically limited to South Carolina.Knp wrote: thank you for useful advice, its really hard to decipher what schools will provide me the best opportunities... according to the link posted above sc has a really high employment score, but being ranked only at 93 it can't be all that great.
Still retake, though...

I had a slightly lower GPA/LSAT than you and got WLed at some T20s and in at some T30s. Definitely retake, I'm in the same boat. Good luck in June!

Re: Full Ride or wait..
Well I got into my top two choices UF and UNC.. waiting on scholarship info (if any)...if I do receive scholarships I really can't see myself waiting another year, even though the potential to increase my score and scholarship money is there, it's not a guarantee that my score will go up and being that my "reach" schools were actually obtainable for me this cycle, i dont feel that I would be settling by attending this fall...does that make sense at all or am i the only crazy person that doesn't see how purely beneficial retaking is?

Re: Full Ride or wait..
It does not make any sense and you are still settling. Why pay a buttload of money to go to UF or UNC when you could go for free next year with a decent retake? Those are both much better schools than Charlottte, but the point we made definitely still stands.
If someone offered you 100K to wait a year to go to either of those law schools, would you do it? That's the situation you're in right now.

The odds of ever actually becoming a lawyer from University of Florida are approximately 55% and about 68% at University of North Carolina.Will_McAvoy wrote: If someone offered you 100K to wait a year to go to either of those law schools, would you do it? That's the situation you're in right now.
You can do absolutely whatever you want. However, you will most likely regret this decision. I know many people who graduated from TT/TTT/TTTT schools that are waiting tables, driving UPS trucks, and working for free WHILE STILL PAYING BACK 250k IN LOANS. This is not monopoly. You could very well end up ruining your life. We are NOT being elitist - we are being RATIONAL.

Also, stop trying to validate an objectively terrible decision. Do you know what I would do to get a URM boost?! You are just wasting it. Not to be rude but if you decide to attend these schools at sticker you truly deserve what you get.Knp wrote:Well I got into my top two choices UF and UNC.. waiting on scholarship info (if any)...if I do receive scholarships I really can't see myself waiting another year, even though the potential to increase my score and scholarship money is there, it's not a guarantee that my score will go up and being that my "reach" schools were actually obtainable for me this cycle, i dont feel that I would be settling by attending this fall...does that make sense at all or am i the only crazy person that doesn't see how purely beneficial retaking is?
Knp wrote: too late to sit it out, unfortunately I have 11 apps out there, but I am definitely not willing to settle. If nothing great works out for me this cycle I am fine with waiting a year, especially after reading everyone's comments. Just gives me more options.

Disgusting. Didn't know Florida was that bad.WaltGrace83 wrote:The odds of ever actually becoming a lawyer from University of Florida are approximately 55% and about 68% at University of North Carolina.Will_McAvoy wrote: If someone offered you 100K to wait a year to go to either of those law schools, would you do it? OP, I was not in any way endorsing going to either of these schools and paying any money for it, if that was misconstrued.
