Re: T13, T14, or T15
Is Georgetown really that bad? I mean I was going to Early Decision Gtown before UVA because I knew it would be easier to get into UVA early decision but I don't really want to live in another dam* college town especially in Virginia. I mean when you guys feel like http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4UdmYInXplY towards Gtown does it hurt when Gtown students at their god awful school take spots at the firm you wanted because you are below the median.

Does anyone find in coincidental that the rankings were released on the 15th of the month?

Except when he wrote that, he was a professor at UT, and you really can't trust Leiter when he's writing about his own school.flcath wrote:Yeah well, he sucks in general.AreJay711 wrote:Is that Leiter post for real? Dude needs to read the usability guidelines or something.flcath wrote:

It pains me to link to him. But frankly, I trust his feelings on LS reputations over the herd mentality at TLS.

lolololol What part of "the 14 schools that have been ranked in the top 10 at some point" was so confusing?FiveSermon wrote:Being outside of t14 isn't a t14 rule. Stop making shit up. I don't think so. Thus, the statement that "T14 is the schools who have been in the top 10 previously" is wrong.
T10 and T20, people.

Yep, I made it up. Exactly. GTTTOWN people like FiveSermon are sore football losers who want to keep moving the goal posts to keep the other team from scoring.FiveSermon wrote:Being outside of t14 isn't a t14 rule. I move for Top 10 and Top 20 as the key distinctions. There is a clear drop-off after UVA in terms of prestige and placement.
Loving Berkeley's fall btw. They never deserved to be a "T6." Next, I'd like Stanford to supplant Harvard, UPenn to supplant NYU, and Vandy to supplant GTTTOWN to tie UT. Then the rankings would be perfect.

http://leiterlawschool.typepad.com/leit ... owels.htmlHere's the bizarre part: the only rationale for this grouping is that all these schools have been ranked in "the top 14" by U.S. News and World Report since roughly the early-to-mid-1990s!
Since the bolded is no longer true, then the T14 needs to be reformulated.
Although US News itself and almost everyone (lawyers, my pre-law advisor, parents) who's not on TLS talks about "top 10 law schools," maybe T13 is a better distinction.

Because their really isn't a discernible difference between any of the lower t13. Arbitrary cutting it off at 10 makes no sense.AreJay711 wrote:

I'm not really denying that but the post I was responding to said that lawyers always talk about the top 10 so it should be top 13 rather than top 14. There is some difference between top 10 and the rest of the top 13 in academia FWIW which matches rather nicely with the difference between CCN and placement at top vault firms. Idk if top 10 is that much off from top 6.Desert Fox wrote:Because their really isn't a discernible difference between any of the lower t13. Your citing some guy on some website. What he says isn't the truth. It's been collective knowledge for a while what T14 is. Guess you just ain't on the in and in.

Ehh, UVA and Berkeley do ok too. V10 hiring is much more of a substantial number than academic hiring but as far as semi-arbitrary distinctions go, academic placement is ok.Desert Fox wrote:[

Re: T13, T14, or T15
Yes, that is the descriptive meaning, all right. The question then becomes obvious--if T14 is "just" the schools ranked 1-14 in any given year, as opposed to a class of schools that are consistently ranked in a certain range (as some say), then T14 doesn't really mean anything. I.e., there's HYS, CCN, and the rest fluctuate like a motherfucker. Is Texas "better" than Vanderbilt in terms of absolute employment prospects because it's 14 vs. 16? No. But I guess that's what most people think anyway, it's all random and ridiculous. If Texas tying with Georgetown "breaches" the T14 and makes Georgetown less prestigious just like that, then you have to concede that T14 didn't really signify much in the first place beyond numbers.flcath wrote:It means the top 14 schools
