Re: after law school contingency plans?
Apply for any government or non-profit job I can find and use IBR to pay off government debt. If I could be a cop/teacher/whatever for ten years, I could at least get out from the debt.

If you are applying from within the government, from a GS-7 job, and have a law degree, I think you would have a good chance of landing a GS-9 or GS-11 job.Patriot1208 wrote: Are you implying it is easy to get a legal job at the DOJ?
Once you get in Fed service, you get connected-- there are networks in it and you can work it.
Basically, you test in to a different branch and lateral up.

Hmm, as a current DOJ employee, I'm going to emphatically say, at least for the DOJ, that you are wrong.Ambitious wrote:If you are applying from within the government, from a GS-7 job, and have a law degree, I think you would have a good chance of landing a GS-9 or GS-11 job.Patriot1208 wrote: Are you implying it is easy to get a legal job at the DOJ?

Interesting, I thought it worked the same for the DOJ.
Are you an atty or legal support?

Re: after law school contingency plans?
do what i should have done when i was 18 and join the military ( I may do it anyways), go back to school and get another degree, try to get a job working for the govt doing anything( having the jd can help open some doors), not worry about living in nowhere idaho( or anywhere else) for a bit and take any job in the legal field.... go back to being a teacher for the emotionally disabled children, and offer legal advice for education plans to families during parent teacher meetings,
or if all else fails
keep trying to get a job

I have some key family connections which i have yet to tap. If i can't get a law job i'll go down that road. If that fails, I'll become a bus driver, where ironically enough, i also have family connections
again. Nepotism for the win.

I know what that is... I just couldn't figure out what it had to do with my comment.Moxie wrote:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Necrophiliakeg411 wrote:I don't get it![]()

Both words start of Ne, and I was pretending to confuse the two for humorous effect.keg411 wrote:I know what that is... I just couldn't figure out what it had to do with my comment.Moxie wrote:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Necrophiliakeg411 wrote:I don't get it![]()

Re: after law school contingency plans?
Not even in LS or anything, but I gave thought to this (considering JDU opinions) before I decided on committing to LSAT etc.
There are some local firms where I went to school w/ partner's children, or are family friends with partners that I have good relationships with. I am not assuming that'll get me a position, but at last resort I have a decent family relationship with a former SCOTUS justice (would not touch this unless absolutely necessary), so would at least be able to get a strong rec regionally.
Here's to hoping everything goes as planned..........
