Today our senior manager announced i would be leaving for Law School this fall. Unfortunately, since I've been waitlisted at my dream schools and my actual school of attendence is TBD, that's what was announced. A flurry of inquiries followed. FML.

did everyone give 2 weeks notice or longer? is it rude/not recommended to give a shorter notice depending on your circumstances?

As far as I know, 2 weeks is the acceptable standard, although if you're in a position of importance (i.e. you need to help train a replacement or something) you should probably give your employer even more notice.

I gave tentative 2 weeks...3 weeks ago and I'm still here. I let them know that I was in the middle of attempting to get my apartment rented out and that as soon as I accomplish this I'm gone. They knew I was leaving for law school and they have no intention of replacing me.
