As a Penn student, I'm pretty upset. I feel like that last minute loss to USC killed us. Had we won the Rose Bowl we would have passed NYU at 6 for sure.

When it comes to lay prestige (clearly the most important kind of prestige), this is the most widely accepted ranking, actually:T14_Scholly wrote:Georgetown's drop to 15 does not matter in the slightest. Real question: Does NYU really not have a lot of lay prestige outside of the Northeast? In the northeast it has a ton of it (at least im my experience).

Re: 2018 USNWR Rankings
NYU is known as a decent school but people are more impressed that you're going to school in NYC than that you're going to NYU. Stern seems to have a lot of lay prestige in the northeast. I've heard tons of people say w/r/t b-school that Wharton is #1 and Stern is #2.ashrice13 wrote:Real question: Does NYU really not have a lot of lay prestige outside of the Northeast? NYU Law as its own entity isn't well known: "Oh NYU Law. Isn't their law school campus in Tribeca?"

So she had to visit before making a decision.shadowfax wrote:Tiffany visited Harvard first.
However, she was too busy being MAGA and didn't get many academic undergraduate honors. She may have to settle for TT Harvard.Tiffany is reportedly interested in Yale, which accepts only 10 percent of applicants for its incoming class of 200.
Of the three law schools she has publicly visited, Harvard (No. 2) is probably the best fit

What kind of half-ass excuse for an elitist puts a public school alongside the likes of Harvard? For shame!HYPSM wrote:When it comes to lay prestige (clearly the most important kind of prestige), this is the most widely accepted ranking, actually:

Depends, I grew up in Florida (Tampa area) and NYU/Columbia def had lay prestige in my area. That said I still think anecdotally it was Duke up top, and if you went out of a city I'm sure it would have been the only non FL state school people knewashrice13 wrote:Real question: Does NYU really not have a lot of lay prestige outside of the Northeast? No. https://record.umich.edu/articles/athle ... 017-budget
"Based on preliminary results, the Athletic Department currently projects a balanced budget for FY '16. The operating budget saw lower-than-budgeted spectator admissions in basketball and non-conference ice hockey contests as well as higher-than-budgeted costs in student financial aid and team and game expenses. Those items were offset partially by lower-than-expected facility expenses and other budget management initiatives."

This is kind of what I thought but I've seen it now in several different threads so I was starting to think it was serious.cavalier1138 wrote:It's mostly people trolling any non-Ivy (and Penn, because Penn).ashrice13 wrote:Real question: Does NYU really not have a lot of lay prestige outside of the Northeast? Tbh my biggest complaint about UVA is the lack of lay prestige.RParadela wrote:Lay prestige is based off of UG and NYU's UG is a joke compared to the rest of these schools so NYU's lay prestige blows
Edit: this post will remain up for another hour before I inevitably delete before I get dinged from NYU
I told someone here I was going to UVA on a full ride and they're like, "Well, you could always try to shoot for Vanderbilt! They're basically Ivy League."

All Harvard Law.MarkinKansasCity wrote:Yeah and I dated some real winners before I got married too. There's a reason you don't commit on the first date.shadowfax wrote:Tiffany visited Harvard first.

NYU does not have lay prestige where I'm from. I mean, if by "lay prestige," you mean "lay prestige among a certain class of highly educated person," then Penn and Cornell and the other ivies definitely have it beat, just because people tend to know a little bit about how good a school's UG program is and extrapolate from there. If you mean "lay prestige among actual laypeople on average," then everything below Princeton Law School is basically a wash.

Looks like you have a case of both mental midgetry and lay prestige midgetry. You're telling me the word "Georgetown" doesn't set off 5 alarm prestige fires? Get the fuck out of the thread. From now on, you only speak here when I give you permission.HYPSM wrote:When it comes to lay prestige (clearly the most important kind of prestige), this is the most widely accepted ranking, actually:T14_Scholly wrote:Georgetown's drop to 15 does not matter in the slightest. Cornell
GTFO:
Chicago, NYU, Michigan, Virginia, Penn State, Northwestern, and I'm not even gonna include GULC because non-T13s are not worth mentioning.

Not commenting on Texas or Georgetown, although Georgetown is more well-known b/t the two.

I'm in the Midwest and, in my experience, Georgetown has a ton of lay prestige. It's weirdly the school my non-lawyer family, friends, and coworkers are most impressed by.votebuilder1 wrote:Re: Lay prestige (lay=non-lawyers; "people on the street") in the Midwest. Here's my approx. ranking --
