As a Penn student, I'm pretty upset. I feel like that last minute loss to USC killed us. Had we won the Rose Bowl we would have passed NYU at 6 for sure.

Georgetown's drop to 15 does not matter in the slightest. You know what every law school other than Harvard, Yale and Georgetown is? A lay prestige midget. Go out in the street and tell someone you went to New York University and they won't give two fucks. If I even say the word Georgetown in DC, they get on their knees.

When it comes to lay prestige (clearly the most important kind of prestige), this is the most widely accepted ranking, actually:

Sports do bring money and money gives a school flexibility. Compare Michigan to NYU. Both schools started back in the early 1800's. Michigan's endowment is $9.7 billion while NYU's is $3.4 billion. A startling difference. Love em or hate em jock alums support their schools. Michigan's annual sports revenue is $160 million. The Ivy's started as a sports conference. Harvard endowment $37 billion Yale $25 billion.

Actually Michigan sports ran a 250 million dollar defecit this year ....

NYU is known as a decent school but people are more impressed that you're going to school in NYC than that you're going to NYU. Stern seems to have a lot of lay prestige in the northeast. I've heard tons of people say w/r/t b-school that Wharton is #1 and Stern is #2.

NYU Law as its own entity isn't well known: "Oh NYU Law. Isn't their law school campus in Tribeca?"

So she had to visit before making a decision.

Tiffany is reportedly interested in Yale, which accepts only 10 percent of applicants for its incoming class of 200.

However, she was too busy being MAGA and didn't get many academic undergraduate honors. She may have to settle for TT Harvard.

Of the three law schools she has publicly visited, Harvard (No. 2) is probably the best fit

Depends, I grew up in Florida (Tampa area) and NYU/Columbia def had lay prestige in my area. That said I still think anecdotally it was Duke up top, and if you went out of a city I'm sure it would have been the only non FL state school people knew

NYU does not have lay prestige where I'm from. I mean, if by "lay prestige," you mean "lay prestige among a certain class of highly educated person," then Penn and Cornell and the other ivies definitely have it beat, just because people tend to know a little bit about how good a school's UG program is and extrapolate from there. If you mean "lay prestige among actual laypeople on average," then everything below Princeton Law School is basically a wash.

I'm in the Midwest and, in my experience, Georgetown has a ton of lay prestige. It's weirdly the school my non-lawyer family, friends, and coworkers are most impressed by.
