Michigan -15% does something seem totally off or is it just me? It's 15% move either way is one thing, but a decrease is a huge topic. Being overlooked on this forum?

Decreasing class size allows them to hold medians and improve job stats. Lots of schools are doing ittenneb30 wrote:Michigan -15% does something seem totally off or is it just me? It's 15% move either way is one thing, but a decrease is a huge topic. Being overlooked on this forum?

Decreasing class size is never a bad thing.

My guess is no one outside of this thread knows about it yet. The drop is actually more like 28% since 2010.tenneb30 wrote:Michigan -15% does something seem totally off or is it just me? It's 15% move either way is one thing, but a decrease is a huge topic. Being overlooked on this forum?
What's really crazy to me is that they dropped 48 1L's from last year to this year but didn't improve any of their numbers.

It will be a trend we will see repeated again and again this past cycle (as was the case in the past few cycles but more prominent at the top this year because of the diminished scoring LSAT folks.)

Michigan should probably just cut its class size in half every year until its placement numbers don't blow.

Re: CLASS OF 2018 MEDIANS! (LSAT/GPA/Class Size)
It seems possible that in dropping the bottom 48 1Ls, they're also dropping 48 people who would definitely be paying sticker -- which may in turn mean that there is some negative offset that has to happen w/r/t mid-level candidate scholarships, leading to many candidates around median turning down offers. I'm especially curious about what the scholarship numbers will look like this year compared to years past with Michigan and many other schools. I think we'll continue to see more full-rides all-around, and in those cases when class sizes significantly shrink, fewer 25-75% scholarships. Thoughts?Tiago Splitter wrote:My guess is no one outside of this thread knows about it yet. It's possible, but it's a big assumption to make. I think we'll see many schools giving out slightly more money but nothing too radical.zhenders wrote:It seems possible that in dropping the bottom 48 1Ls, they're also dropping 48 people who would definitely be paying sticker -- which may in turn mean that there is some negative offset that has to happen w/r/t mid-level candidate scholarships, leading to many candidates around median turning down offers. Ostensibly a significant portion of their budget but hardly a dent in an $8+ billion parent endowment.TheodoreKGB wrote:In a previous post, Paul Campos figured that that enrollment drop cost Michigan $12 mill

WUSTL is a significantly smaller and poorer school and pays at least $12M a year in scholarships, all of which is basically for US News.TheodoreKGB wrote:In a previous post, Paul Campos figured that that enrollment drop cost Michigan $12 mill

But given that US News is far and away the number one determinant of where the average applicant chooses to go to school, I'd put a market value of moving up one spot in the rankings as well over $12M.

NYU doesn't disclose its LSAT median on its website. Is there a reason for this? How can we be sure that 170 is still the median?

Also, international applicants treat the US News Rankings as gospel (mostly because aside from a handful of well known US schools, international employers literally just consult the rankings), and those applicants are a huge source of $$$.
Schools such as Vandy, WashU, Rice, Emory, and Tufts are now much more widely known, and are considered highly prestigious in Asia.

Top ranked private schools get tons of funding that make it possible for them to push through year-to-year changes in enrollment/tuition revenue.

Seems like a lot of schools in the second tier like Richmond are also increasing their headcounts. Interesting.

Wow that's crazy. I knew a couple of people that went through college 1-2 years younger than the rest and they generally agree they didn't have a good time. Couldn't go out and drink / perceived as too immature to have many friends. I can't imagine graduating at 18.basedvulpes wrote:I'm more surprised by the 18tenneb30 wrote:Age 51 for UF? Weren't they going to kill the entire 2018 class? Are the people who are going there not able to use the internet? A 5 second google search should be enough to convince anyone to not attend there.urbanist11 wrote:Here's one I'm sure people have been anxious to see
