Has anyone with really high numbers even tried to solicit fee waivers from Columbia/NYU/Penn? I got a firm no from Chicago but maybe the others would be more accomodating? I might at least try it before I submit them all (at the end of next week probably).

Has anybody tried using the status checker app for this year's cycle yet? I can't get it to log into anything; I suspect it might be because even if I try to manually log in I have to enter a captcha which obviously would foil any automatic attempts. Is this old news that I just missed or what?

Like I said a few posts above, the app isn't working (both the desktop app from lsstatuscheck.com and the iOS app), likely due to the captcha present now.

Do you think it's safe to assume that if you haven't gotten an unsolicited waiver from Northwestern by now, you probably won't? CRS complete, LSAT complete, etc.

received today as well. their cutoffs for merit-based fee waivers dropped from last year. i remember looking before and not meeting their requirements, but now i do.

for reference, the website says:
USC Law offers merit-based fee waivers by invitation only to applicants whose profiles typically meet or exceed both the median LSAT score (167) and the median GPA (3.69) for our entering class. Candidates who wish to be considered for a CRS Merit Fee Waiver must register for LSAC's Candidate Referral Service (CRS) before applying to our law school. Invitations will be emailed/mailed to those candidates who meet our profile criteria and are registered for CRS. All CRS Merit Fee Waivers will reflect automatically on the electronic USC JD application at the payment window as the fee is connected to your LSAC account number. No fee waiver code is required if a CRS Merit fee waiver is awarded.

Today I met with my pre-law advisor and I swear to god she said, "Well at least you're not trying to get into, like, UChicago or something, because then it'd be impossible to be in the top 10% of your class. It'd be way easier to be at the top of your class at [T20 schools]." No bullshit.

Ahhhh the old "I can't do something, so you can't either" advice. So refreshing. Especially from someone you're paying to give said advice

It wasn't even that, it's that she's assuming because a school is ranked a couple spots lower that it's significantly easier to do well at it, or that because someone got a few more questions right on the LSAT that their classmates, that they'll get better grades than them. My pre-law advisor is so useless.

BC as well. The schools changed the availability dates, that's all (so mine are just old/outdated). Will update in the AM.

Yeah that's pretty bad that she actually believes that. Honestly, I haven't even talked to my pre-law advisor at all. She's a great person, but the reason I haven't talked to her is because I think this site alone has more useful information for the admissions process than pre-law advisors do. I really believe that frequent TLS readers probably know more than most pre-law advisors, mainly because the information here is so current and you're able to hear stories/cycles from such a variety of backgrounds and credentials.

Weird. I think you have better numbers than me, and I have a waiver from Chicago in my inbox. It's dated Sept. 4th.
