Although I did not specifically request one, I received a merit-based fee waiver from Duke via email on Friday

i asked them about it and they told me they discontinued merit-based waivers a few years ago.
Err...they gave them out last year:

that's a little strange. that's definitely what i was told by them, and my numbers are strong enough that i doubt it was just a non-confrontational "no."

I got an e-mail reply this morning saying my fee is waived now. I believe I sent my e-mail on the 28th asking for a waiver.

+1, unsolicited.
Edit: Just FWIW, Vandy also just sent me an e-mail letting me know that they're doing applicant interviews this year + dates/locations for interviews in September.

Finally got the Michigan one, I was beginning to thing that they were starting their YPing ways early.
However, I did like the personal message at the end of the letter even though everyone gets one. It was specific enough to show that they are willing to put a little extra effort into getting applicants... and who doesn't want to feel wanted? I normally think personal touches are overrated, but this time it worked. Although, I'm not sure that even that is enough to make me write a "Why Michigan".

Also, Vandy fee waiver was well timed because as of yesterday I decided I was only applying T14 schools, but I think the timing of the fee waiver has changed my mind. T14 minus Yale plus Vandy it is (assuming Penn and Georgetown waivers come in).

I got the Duke priority track, and Michigan waiver (with the handwritten note lol), but not Vandy. Kinda irritated about it. If it doesn't come in, I will probably take them off my list.

I didn't get Vandy either

Is there any rhyme or reason to the timing of fee waivers? I got Michigan (unrequested) over a month ago, but it seems as if others just received it.

Ugh, I was on a roll for a little while with UVA and Duke but now I keep getting FWs from these crappy TTT schools.
