Transfering out of any T14 is something only tools do.

Just adjusted it - Let me know if this works better!idontknow1 wrote:I hope I am not A-hole to ask this, but can you please adjust the width of the columns for "change" and "BL + FedClerk 2013." Makes it easier for my tiny laptop screen to view the data. Also, if we can see the change from 2014-13 applicants I think it would be helpful. If I can help with the spreadsheet let me know.BrazilBandit wrote:Thanks! Why would people do that. If youre top of the class at Cornell what else would you needDesert Fox wrote:Transfering out of any T14 is something only tools do.

If you're not getting money and you'd rather spend the next two years trolloping around manhattan it makes sense.Mack.Hambleton wrote:Why would people do that. If youre top of the class at Cornell what else would you needDesert Fox wrote:Transfering out of any T14 is something only tools do.

Personal reasons. Maybe non-biglaw goals.Mack.Hambleton wrote:Why would people do that. If youre top of the class at Cornell what else would you needDesert Fox wrote:Transfering out of any T14 is something only tools do.
Maybe they're there at sticker so no incentive to stay.
I wouldn't do it, but people have their reasons.

Yeah depending on your scholarship (or rather lack thereof) and/or geographical preferences it can make perfectly good sensescottidsntknow wrote:If you're not getting money and you'd rather spend the next two years trolloping around manhattan it makes sense.Mack.Hambleton wrote:Why would people do that. 2 went to Yale for dat prestige (and other good reasons)
1 went to Uchi (to get out of ithaca?)
4 went to CLS to get out of Ithaca
8 went to NYU to get out of Ithaca
1 went to NW for personal reasons
Not sure if I missed any; but basically it's an exodus out of Ithaca in order to have a better QoL for the next two years. It sort of make sense if not receiving aid money and/or have personal reasons to also justify it. As someone who made the jump, on most days I regret it.
Also, I'd estimate 5/8 of those NYU people were ~median. So they weren't giving up "top of the class Cornell" options. NYU prob a better call long term.

If you're at sticker and get accepted to a higher ranked school you should just ask for a scholarship.

Cornell doesn't even entertain that idea.Mal Reynolds wrote:If you're at sticker and get accepted to a higher ranked school you should just ask for a scholarship.

You get a reaction between a laugh and a farewell. From my experience, quite a few people would have stayed for even a bit of money.Mal Reynolds wrote:Pretty TTT move if true.

Maybe I'm not thinking through all the implications but it seems like good business to make an effort to retain high gpa students.

Re: Latest employment data
Only legit reason I can think of is someone who wants to do PI and is attending at sticker or close to it. Don't know much about Cornell's LRAP but NYU's is probably way better. Better PI alumni network too.Mack.Hambleton wrote:Why would people do that. Re: Latest employment data
Many people who transfer from
cornell were paying sticker at Cornell. I don't think that's a bad idea if you're transferring to Columbia/Harvard/Yale/Stanford and it was for non-biglaw purposes, but I still think that the benefits from transferring sticker-to-sticker from
cornell to NYU are outweighed by myriad costs. It doesn't make sense to me.

I know I know, the rankings are pointless, but can we all just acknowledge that Cornell and GULC being tied is ridiculous? T13 should be a new thing. Vandy's placement is on par with GULC.

Re: Latest employment data
If transfers are missing the main OCI, and 18 in a class of 190 (that are presumably median and above?) are transferring out, and they are still putting 74% into bl +fc, well below median students at cornell are getting biglaw. That's fucking nuts, and that's OCI 2012.toothbrush wrote:Yeah, I think it was 18 out 7 in this year. And you're right on the OCI points too, mostly (transfers in can do OCI and other job fairs that happen later in August, if they are accepted early enough).BigZuck wrote:Doesn't a large proportion of the top of Cornell's class transfer out? And then don't they also not let transfers participate in OCI? Their numbers are kind of mind boggling if both those are true
Guesses on what % will be the highest? Looks like ~85% is a possibility, no?
Could it really have been that much better pre-reccession? There has to be a limit to how deep firms are willing to go, I can't imagine sub 3.0s (I'm guessing bottom 10%) at any t14 are getting biglaw without serious connections.

People were probably getting a few more offers in the absolute heyday but this is about as good as you'll see.

Shhh, I prolly would've taken GULC if Cornell didn't match their offer.LET'S GET IT wrote:I know I know, the rankings are pointless, but can we all just acknowledge that Cornell and GULC being tied is ridiculous? T13 should be a new thing. Vandy's placement is on par with GULC.
Cause of those rankings I have schools with probably a 25-30% bl+fc difference considering each other as peers and matching scholarships

you think even though the current matriculating class is at its lowest level (or close to it i think), this is the best it's gonna get?Tiago Splitter wrote:People were probably getting a few more offers in the absolute heyday but this is about as good as you'll see.

Re: Latest employment data
The top schools aren't adjusting class size much and most biglaw hiring comes from the top schools. Cooley cutting it's class by 50% doesn't do anything to these numbers. Good for just being any kind of lawyer though.starry eyed wrote:you think even though the current matriculating class is at its lowest level (or close to it i think), this is the best it's gonna get?Tiago Splitter wrote:People were probably getting a few more offers in the absolute heyday but this is about as good as you'll see.
Also a word of warning: The kind of business activity that is driving this amount of hiring is extremely hot right now. But it won't stay this way forever.
