If that's true for UVA and Penn, I see UVA overtaking Penn and holding 7 alone next year given the absurd money their handing out this year.

Possible, but if and when USNWR starts punishing schools for employment numbers based on school-funded jobs (didn't someone say this was happening?), UVa is gonna get shit on.

I always thought it was TLS knowledge that the T14 was the T14 because they were the top 14 schools in the first USNWR rankings. I just looked up the historical rankings and that's not true. Anyway, as we are close to the release of another year of rankings I thought you guys would like to see how some schools have faired since the rankings were first released in 1987.

Nobody pays any attention to 1987 because that was the first year and USNWR drastically changed their methodology before releasing the next set in 1990. The T14 have been static since 1990.

Bama is a decent school with solid in-state placement, but they shamelessly recruit students from their honors program that haven't even taken the LSAT to artificially inflate their GPA medians. Everyone always bashes ASU for gaming the rankings, but other schools like Bama, UVA, etc. do it just as shamelessly and receive almost none of the flack.

It's really not that surprising. They were #29 last year and with more weight given to employment score they should've moved up. Their employment score is much better than most schools in that range and they do it without any school-funded positions too.

How does UVA, aside from it's weird YPing and school-funded stuff?

-School-funded positions to improve its employment score.
-YPing to reduce acceptance rate.
-Having a 2-week ED decision window to lock in big splitters and big reverse splitters and maintain their medians (their 25th GPA and LSAT are both in the bottom two of the T14 and their ED class is huge)
-Apparently telling admits not to update their LSAC GPAs if they fell below their GPA target
-Also read by at least a couple posters that UVa was calling wait listers last year to judge their interest - not interviews (ostensibly to avoid offering a spot and then not being taken up on it - I.e. increasing yield)

Yeah, I know it sounds like sour grapes, and I was rejected by UVa, but I was rejected by a couple other schools too and don't resent them for at least TRYING to make it appear as though they're holistic and don't bend over for USNWR.
