haha I hear you! Serving people food for a living is unbelievably soul-crushing. Unfortunately that's basically what I'll be doing for most of the summerShadowRabbit wrote:Ya, think I'm putting in my two weeks on Saturday. It would be amazing if I could somehow suck it up and wait tables through june and into july, but I just can't. I can't do it anymore. Can't wait till the end of July to leave. Just trying not to due anything stupid that will prevent me from getting references in the future.
Praying to be laid off because severence would extend WAY past when I was going to quit for school. Already brought it up to the big boss and was rejected outright. Had to ask....

Last week of July is scheduled to be my last week. Then 2 1/2 weeks of unpacking till the grind starts. I did sneak a trip to Hawaii in next month though
Figured it'd be my last vacation for five years or so.

Re: So, anybody ready to quit their jobs yet?
I am quitting my job at a large I-bank for PT law school, the reason for this is that my job can not (read will not) ensure me that I can leave at a certain time for class everyday. Once I am in school and have my routine down I will be looking for something though.pammy1985 wrote:Is anyone here planning to stay at work and go to school part time? Am I the only insane one????

I worked full time in grad school. A year and a half of that was enough for me. Of course, I was also in school full time. I didn't have a lot of time to sleep. I'm considering looking for part time work after the first year if I feel like I have the time to do it.pammy1985 wrote:Is anyone here planning to stay at work and go to school part time? So from your experience, do you think it's reasonable to expect a good GPA with work full time and part time law school? I've done full time ug, at least 6 courses each semester plus part time work before and I was perfectly fine. I worked on anxiety and my nerves during those years but it worked beautifully. Do you think that's doable?penni_rose wrote:I worked full time in grad school. A year and a half of that was enough for me. Of course, I was also in school full time. Re: So, anybody ready to quit their jobs yet?
I had a good GPA in grad school, so I guess it's possible, but I hear the law school is harder. Honestly, the curve sort of concerns me. I did well on my master's, but there was no curve so in a few of my classes most people made A's. That's why I want to wait until after the first year to even think about finding work. I want to know what I'm getting into first.pammy1985 wrote:So from your experience, do you think it's reasonable to expect a good GPA with work full time and part time law school? My boss (who has known about law school since I started thinking about going) is breaking the news to our Senior VP right now that I'm leaving in July...I can't really hear the conversation but it's taking a while and I'm kind of freaking out that the Senior VP is going to want to get rid of me asap...

borning? edit: you fixed this already.dantimreynolds wrote:My last day was last friday....I forgot how boring borning was.
either way. I am so jealous of those of you who are done working... Working until July 31st, with how nice the weather has been, is making me absolutely miserable. I am so ready to quit, I dread getting up in the morning to go to work..... and by the time I get home, the beatiful DC evenings are over....

Okay, not fired. Got a "congratulations -- why do you want to be a lawyer? You're too nice to be a lawyer" speech. Er, thanks.

I'd say every other day the associates on my case go "are you sure you want to do this with your life? its not too late to back out..."carine44 wrote:Okay, not fired. Got a "congratulations -- why do you want to be a lawyer? You're too nice to be a lawyer" speech. Er, thanks.

My coworkers say, "I thought about going to law school but I don't wanna go back to school"
Everytime my officemate receives substandard work from a firm, he says to me "X, Y, and Z, they suck. Don't work for them." or "X, Y, and Z recruits from ABC school. Isn't that a TTT?"

Wouldn't it be good to get laid off. That would mean severence, no? I am praying to get laid off right now, it would pay for my first year of school if I did.

it sucks that I am actually "too valuable" to my cases for them to lay me off.... job security sucks!qaz57wsx wrote:carine44 wrote:My boss (who has known about law school since I started thinking about going) is breaking the news to our Senior VP right now that I'm leaving in July...I can't really hear the conversation but it's taking a while and I'm kind of freaking out that the Senior VP is going to want to get rid of me asap...

As I said in an older post I am also praying for it. My company is doing a lot of laying off and I told my boss to "sacrifice" me to save other co-workers who need the money and job secruity. He didn't seem to keen on the idea. Your right though serverence would pay for my first year of school.

Re: So, anybody ready to quit their jobs yet?
Severance or no, I didn't want to be let go early. Unfortunately they will not be hiring someone to replace me ITE so it's going to really suck for my boss when I leave. I like him a lot, he wrote one of my LORs, etc. and I would have felt awful if the VP didn't let him keep me on until July.
Don't get me wrong - I am definitely ready to go, but I've planned for the July exit and I think the weeks will pass quickly.
Good luck to everyone hoping for a layoff!

I'm sort of trying to get "let go." They aren't laying people off, but they do give nice severance packages to the people that "just don't work out." I'm not, like, actively trying to get fired, I'm mostly just hoping.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
