Re: List of Class of 2013 GPA and LSAT Medians
Just curious but would someone with a 3.71 and a 167 really go to Minnesota? i knwo its a good school, but those numbers could get you into a T14 i would think. Maybe thats hopeful thinking. But its like UVA, would a 3.85 and a 170 go to UVA? those are CCN numbers. It is just the combination of splitters that do it for these schools?

It's why medians are a weird number to use. It is NOT an average.

Me too. I'd also like to see average salary for hires out of schools.jt1341 wrote:Haha i know its not an average, but i am curious what the actual averages are.

Look at Minnesota's 25th/50th/75th percentiles: 3.36/3.71/3.84 and 159/167/168. They take a lot of splitters and reverse splitters, and probably throw money at some people who meet both medians. Illinois (25th = 163) and WUSTL (25th = 162) use the same strategy to reach their 167 median.jt1341 wrote:Just curious but would someone with a 3.71 and a 167 really go to Minnesota? i knwo its a good school, but those numbers could get you into a T14 i would think. Besides, a 3.71 / 167 could only get into Cornell out of the T14, and their location turns off a lot of applicants.

3.71/167 won't get you into a T14 and 3.85/170 doesn't have more than an even shot at CCN.jt1341 wrote:Just curious but would someone with a 3.71 and a 167 really go to Minnesota? i knwo its a good school, but those numbers could get you into a T14 i would think. but a 4.0/170 almost guarantees one of CCN and MAYBE a HYS, doesnt seem like that big of a difference. Though i guess it really israyiner wrote:3.71/167 won't get you into a T14 and 3.85/170 doesn't have more than an even shot at CCN.jt1341 wrote:Just curious but would someone with a 3.71 and a 167 really go to Minnesota? i knwo its a good school, but those numbers could get you into a T14 i would think. What do you mean? I've always thought medians gave you the best idea as to whether or not you will be accepted.Hannibal wrote:It's why medians are a weird number to use. It is NOT an average.

Re: List of Class of 2013 GPA and LSAT Medians
Chicago has 206 students instead of 180 this year. This could be because more students chose Chicago that was expected. I bet UofCs jump in the rankings played a big part in this jump. Who chose Chicago due to the rankings jump? Those students who were originally thinking about NYU but changed their minds due to the jump. Thus, the median could have been effected by these kids. In this light, Chicago's rise in the rankings may have negatively effected their LSAT median.rayiner wrote:I mean, it's just now clear where NYU got all those high LSATs to raise its median.miamiman wrote:tbf, it's one stupid point. you peeps need to stop freaking out.

Yea, I was just going to say... Wouldn't a ratings jump increase medians as more qualified applicants choose chicago? Your logic seems to suggest otherwise.im_blue wrote:TaipeiMort wrote:rayiner wrote:I mean, it's just now clear where NYU got all those high LSATs to raise its median.miamiman wrote:tbf, it's one stupid point. you peeps need to stop freaking out.Chicago has 206 students instead of 180 this year. Re: List of Class of 2013 GPA and LSAT Medians
When law schools report their LSAT and GPA medians, they are seperate pools. The median student at NYU, for instance, does not have a 3.71 and a 172. Instead, of the LSAT scores they get, 172 is about the median (probably rated by frequency relative to 171/173s). 3.71 is the median of the GPAs they recieve.
As some posters noted above, this explains the splitter friendly tendencies of WUSTL, Indiana, UIL, UMIN, etc. They get their high LSAT medians by taking splitters, and their GPAs by reverse splitters. If the numbers were their median students overall, then no splitter would ever get into those schools. Besides that, it would also mean that tons of people don't care about rankings and prestige, since the medians for Vandy are now about those of Michigan, etc.

WTF are you talking about. Please repost in english.dissonance1848 wrote:Here is the scene with the medians; the median for GPA and LSAT are for the exact 50% per section. The half the students at NYU are not above or below 3.71 and 172. They are split seperately.
One, the matrix for the LSAT GPA numbers are such that there are way fewer people than those medians would suggest. Two, if those were the numbers, then clearly the US News rankings don't mean shit, as tons of people who could go to Michigan or UVA would apparently be at Vandy or some such place.

I figure they eventually had to pass GW, Texas, WUSTL, and Minnesota in medians to be worthy of the T14. They're still behind Vandy and UCLA.whymeohgodno wrote:This is extremely depressing news. Cornell...why did your median go up...WHYYYYYYYYYim_blue wrote:Cornell

Medians better drop this year. 167 please. Re: List of Class of 2013 GPA and LSAT Medians
The only places I would consider going to law school is either in Boston, NY, and Chicago. I hate the west coast and I hate the south.Very few people are as Cornell crazy as you are, may i ask why Cornell?
Also I'm paranoid about job prospects and would like to attend a t14 school. My gpa is around a 3.78 with a year left, and my PT scores seem to indicate that the t14 school I would best have a shot at is Cornell. I wouldn't have a realistic shot at Chicago, Columbia, NYU unless I perform better than my average on the real LSAT (which is unrealistic).
Thus it leaves me with Cornell.
I also love cold weather and upstate NY. Call me crazy but Ithaca is beautiful.

Re: List of Class of 2013 GPA and LSAT Medians
I would say you're going to need a 167 to have any shot at a T14, and a 168 for a good shot. If that doesn't pan out this year, work on raising your GPA above 3.8 and reapply next year.whymeohgodno wrote:The only places I would consider going to law school is either in Boston, NY, and Chicago.
