Re: Why X Essays
I'm sure they read it. I think some people have a compelling reason to go to a certain school, like a spouse lives in that city. Or maybe there is a really unique opportunity that school has/offers (little skeptical on this one). I just don't think saying, I want a federal clerkship and Chicago places really well is what they are looking for. I'm sure they get a lot of stuff about Posner too.basedvulpes wrote:If they don't want to read unnecessary addenda why give people the option of writing them? Also, I wonder if schools even really read "why x?" essays, or just check a box saying you took the time to write one.Winston1984 wrote:Depends on who you ask. I think Chicago specifically mentions they appreciate an application that doesn't have unnecessary addenda. Basically adcomms have to pour over thousands of apps, and they might be seen as a negative if you make them have to read several pages. Pretty sure Spivey has mentioned this before. Good question to search in that thread.basedvulpes wrote:Just curious, why not worry about it for T6? Re: Why X Essays
I've been reading contradictory answers about what to include in Why X essays.
How do you go about making one that isn't generic? What can you really say about wanting to go to the school besides what you've found on its website that matches your goals and interests (e.g., clinics, journals, various opportunities, etc.) or it's competitive placement in a state you would like to work in and employment prospects for the particular area of law you would like to practice?

Re: Why X Essays
I'm having difficulty finding it in Spivey's thread. Does anyone know what page it's on? I'm really curious to know what to do in the context of Columbia.Winston1984 wrote:Depends on who you ask. I can second this vaguely from my memory but am unsure where it falls.Winston1984 wrote:Depends on who you ask.
