Congrats. Idk how you'll do with Michigan OCI, but I can imagine that it's Michigan > Georgetown here. I would really really caution against going to Georgetown if you want to stay in Michigan. It's expensive (including COL), out of market, etc. I honestly believe MSU for free when you're at the top of your class puts you at a higher advantage than being a transfer at Georgetown, but that's simply based on my perception that you want to stay in Michigan.judgepayne wrote:Update

Anyway, congrats on the successful first year and the acceptances. Well deserved.

Congratulations on the grades and having things work out for you. Yes, I would consider whatever school you end up at as being with a 1/3 discount since you did 1L for free. I would also strongly consider transferring to any t14 not named Georgetown (and I wouldn't transfer to Cornell, too, if you couldn't do OCI there).judgepayne wrote:Yes, there is no clear answer on this. I want to try to get a biglaw job and most seem to agree this is the way to do it. I also got a year free; isn't that basically equivalent to a 1/3rd scholarship to these schools in terms of cost?magicmagic wrote:I thought this too. Sticker for Georgetown (or even Chicago) is a tough sell. Unless you want academia or biglaw, it might not be worth it to transfer.ronanOgara wrote:Have you thought about staying put? You'll have no debt and likely be at the top of your class. That might put you in a favorable spot.
Anyway, good job this year, and good luck!
I'm taking the summer to work and consider this big decision. Nothing is in stone yet.
Thanks.

Re: Michigan State to Michigan Law Transfer Scenario
I struck out at OCI. transfer + highly ranked firm bids + no significant ties to the major markets I bid on = rejection. I think I'm a fine interviewer, but I can't say for sure. I also went to a good amount of hospitality suites and receptions, but I could have done more. Mass mailing now. If I could change anything, I would have bid a lot more conservatively, and I would strongly advise other transfers to do that. I am focusing on regional firms now, which were probably within reach from my last school.
