Re: Wake Forest vs. UGA
Is it possible to get jobs/internships in DC from UGA or Wake (I'd imagine Wake would be easier) at say the Department of Labor? I think I want to pursue a career in labor/employment law (defendant side). I'm really torn over these two schools, I love UGA and I really do want to live in the south.. but I'm from VA and all of my connections are here in the DC/Richmond area.
I just have this fear of going to law school and placing below the mean. If this does happen, would it be better to have a degree from a school that has recognition in my home state? Is it impossible to move back to VA with a degree from UGA if I have less than stellar grades?
Also.. UGA total cost is going to be around 51k where as WF is going to be around 38k, not a huge difference but could be significant if I'm struggling to find employment.

Everything is possible. Likely? Not at all. DC and gov positions are very difficult even from the t14. I'd retake for UVA/Duke if those are your career goals.nickt92 wrote:Is it possible to get jobs/internships in DC from UGA or Wake (I'd imagine Wake would be easier) at say the Department of Labor? OP you should check UGA and Wake on placement in DC/VA. My guess is that neither school places that many people there, but Wake is probably better. I would attend UGA only if you want to practice in GA and ideally in Atlanta.

Those aspirations require networking from both UG and law school. Your networks will be stronger within DC from a T14 in all likelihood. If you want DC or the South, UVA is probably your strongest bet. If you are that high on DC, you could do pretty well from Georgetown if you networked hard enough. The most helpful thing about prestige is that it is easier to start without a biased perception against your school and the USNW ladder does a decent job of reflecting how well you can network at those schools.
Everyone is advocating retake/reapply because your current options do not seem to be very conducive to your career goals. In the grand scheme of things would you rather be disappointed with what you have to do for one year or what you are able to do for ~40? Your life though, choose whatever makes you happy.
