I double checked the ATL website and it looks like Fordham isn't in the top 50 this year.Creditisgood wrote:Where did Fordham go? looked at the list 3 times. Can't find them.

Re: 2014 ATL Rankings
I honestly can't imagine how that happened. It must have something to do with the cost. 63.4% employment with 36.6% fedclerk/biglaw, those are some mad decent numbers.alicepaul wrote:I double checked the ATL website and it looks like Fordham isn't in the top 50 this year.Creditisgood wrote:Where did Fordham go? looked at the list 3 times. Re: 2014 ATL Rankings
While their methodology is at least somewhat laudable, their explanations are downright fucking stupid. First the guy at the TV says "we don't know why school X dropped/rose Y spots." The fuck you do. You know exactly what part of the methodology caused it (e.g. their clerkship score rose 3.2%). Maybe you don't know why the number of clerks at school X increased, but you sure as shit know why the school rose a certain number of spots. Saying otherwise makes you look like a borderline retard. Second, Elie implies that they are ranking 50 schools because these schools are "national." LOLOLOLOL. Third, Elie states that "15-20 schools give you a good shot at getting a clerkship." What fucking horseshit.
At that point I stopped watching since their rationales, at least as explained by Elie and guy next to TV, are dumber than most 0Ls.

Haha. Kind of shocked that Illinois isn't in the top 25. Then again #27 isn't too shabby.

Wow. I'm in a top 25 school.
Never would've seen that coming.
ETA: shame no one important pays attention to these rankings.

While I should applaud this edition for reasserting the natural order of things, I still think the metric is total horseshit. It's only marginally better than USNWR at best.

No rankings system is perfect but I think the ATL rankings are arguably the best out there, and certainly MUCH better than USNWR.
At least ATL doesn't use 2 year old employment data.

Re: 2014 ATL Rankings
USNWR is not a prestige ranking. Its a survey of the opinions of law professors. That's the driving metric in the ranking. As such, its totally useless.manu6926 wrote:It seems: LST data, ATL rankings for employment outcomes
US News rankings primarily for prestige (entry standards)
Both are good sources of info.
This is how I see it. If you don't see things the way I do, good for you.
I didn't quite agree with ATL's methodology of using sticker prices for "cost". Cost almost always varies for each individual due to scholarships. I got criticized heavily yesterday for assuming sticker for school comparison. People with t6 numbers do tend to get schollys from lower-ranked schools.
ATL's SCOTUS and federal judges ranking is a better metric of prestige. It gets HYS at the top, which is the only benefit USNWR has over a straight employment ranking. It tenders USNWR totally superfluous.

Re: 2014 ATL Rankings
They should get rid of the alumni rating and change cost to reflect real tuition after scholarships.
Also only using NLJ 250? Firm over 50 or 100 is a much better metric. Some states probably don't even have a NLJ firm, but you can still get a high paying private gig. Some inputs would be nice IMO too... I don't want to spend three years listening to a bunch of dummies extrapolate about con law. But agree that USNEWS overvalues inputs.
Yeah this might be better than USNEWS but that's not saying much. LST is far and away best site.

Re: 2014 ATL Rankings
The obvious alternative is to just have individualized rankings that allow people to input their scholarship amounts for various schools.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
