Depends on the school and how bad they game their medians. like, at Minnesota, almost no one gets in below both medians. The vast majority of their class is above one median and then a few people are above both and a few are below both. So everthing cancels out. 25ths/75ths don't matter to them

your numbers will be valuable next cycle. They're too good to blow on W&L. Don't go. Stay the course and re-apply, you'll thank yourself for it

I may be ignorant here but is being above median really THAT huge? I thought median-median numbers would be getting a small scholarship and 75%-75% numbers would be getting a HUGE scholarship and 25%-50% for both numbers would be just getting accepted. This is all generally speaking of course.
Yes. Just look at the WUSTL thread. Above median = making it rain.

Honestly guys, I'm just as puzzled about how schools go about offering scholarships as you are. For Washington and Lee, I originally received 20k a year. After I was accepted to Wake Forest, Indiana and BC, I sent them a negotiation letter asking for more money. I didn't hear back for a while, but then received the scholarship offer covering full cost of attendance.

Just to give you an idea of some other offers I received: Full tuition from WF, 15k a year from Mauer, and 5k a year from Fordham. The offers were all over the place. I'm not sure what to make of it.

I appreciate the advice from anyone regarding this. There is no doubt that the W&L offer is alluring. However, I think I'm going to stick to re-taking. I am convinced I didn't max out my LSAT score. I feel like I owe it to myself to see if I can crack a 170 (or at least get closer than I am now). I'll keep you posted.

Great decision, congrats. Looking forward to your "3.6/173 chances at H" thread.

No, although I was born and raised in Rome, Italy for 14 years. I wonder if that could have anything to do with the unusual scholarship offers. Probably not, but then again who knows.

I agree with everyone above that even free isn't worth it if you can't get to your target markets.

More interesting.... a full ride plus stipend for a 3.6, 163 non-URM (I assume OP would have mentioned it)?

Sounds like the big rankings drop has them in full panic mode down in Lexington.

I thought the same exact thing. I received the offer after the new rankings came out.

FlanAl wrote:Damn, thats a killer offer! I'd refer you to this thread http://www.top-law-schools.com/forums/v ... 5&t=226852. And recommend that you PM the person to try and gain some perspective outside of this site and LST.

I think the main things you have to ask yourself are:
What would your loss of income be for the three years?
How good are you at capitalizing on alumni networks?
How averse to living in the south are you

The W&L GOB network runs deep and I've seen first hand a few friends get hooked up from it. Considering that they will pay you to go there I'm having a hard time seeing a real downside as long as you can open your mind to the south and you're not making tons of money at your current job. I'm pretty sure they will also pay for you to go out and visit and I would definitely do that if possible to get a feel for the school.

Also, if you have an SO the place is pretty isolated so unless they pay for he/she to move out there with you that distance thing could get tough.

Congrats on that offer!
I agree that this is a heck of an offer.

While I am not saying that it is a slam dunk, I think that it is worth more consideration than most others here do. If you have some flexibility regarding where you are willing to live/work after school it is worth thinking about. Yes, with an approved LSAT score you can likely move up the chain, but at the top of the spear you are still looking at a likelihood of more debt in exchange broader prospects. This could well be worthwhile, but it is a personal decision.
