From law admissions staff at my UG:
"I don't know if you should retake; your LSAT is good enough now to get in and most students don't end up improving. Some even get worse scores."

The USNWR rankings are meaningless. No way.

(At some level they might be, ala position in tier 2).

Boomer lawyer in SF was telling me to sit for the bar exam without going to law school (there's some way to do that in CA after apprenticing or something?) and then try to get a job. Lol.

Another boomer lawyer in LA (retired entertainment lawyer who lives in a mansion and now is an advocate for abused children), when I told him I was concerned about the cost of law school, was all "Can't you just go in-state and pay low tuition?"

Not sure where, but I bet most were born between 1946 and 1964.

But they are meaningless. No one here says, go to HYS because they're the top 3 USNWR schools. They say go to HYS because they provide the best opportunity for a good return on your investment, depending on what you want to do.

My UG pre-law advisor has told students not to study for the LSAT, as if it was an IQ test or something. Also advises against retakes.

A RI lawyer said "BC has a better law school than Harvard" or something. Local BC lay prestige is legit.

Maybe, unbeknownst to you, he is doing everyone at your school a public service by trying to dissuade them from attending law school by means of rejections. No studying or retakes = bad LSAT score = denied admission. He might actually be a genius.

Except some law school will accept them, no matter how bad their LSAT score is.

Retake! Don't waste that 3.72 gpa on a 159. Oh, that was your 3rd try? Wait two years and retake! Your out-of-context 3.72 from Southwestern Arkansas State U means that you can definitely score in the 96th-99th percentile on the LSAT if you try hard enough. Retake!

This thread is for bad advice.
Well to be fair maybe you cannot score in the 96th-99th percentile, but retaking is still a good idea for you.

Well I scored 95th percentile on my first attempt, so I'd have to agree with you there; 96th is way out of reach.

In all seriousness my post was a troll, trying to poke fun at those that pay no attention to context/natural aptitude and unconditionally spout "retake". This is probably the wrong crowd for that type of (apparently poor) joke.

I got a chuckle out of it. I know sometimes people are typing on their phones or something, but sometimes you can just tell that someone isn't very bright by their writing almost immediately.

overheard during the LSAT break...
"People who graduate from Cooley have better career outcomes than Harvard students."

I wish this didn't happen but it did. I had to walk away out of fear of becoming dumber through exposure to nonsense.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
