Re: Talk me out of attending WUSTL on full scholarship
Played around with my 170 this year. If I didn't get NU ED, I would have taken UCLA Full ride, cuz I like L.A.. I have family there that I like and connections to lawyers. If you love STL and want to stay there, then take the money. If you want other things, as I do, then I certainly wouldn't go there. If I had gotten neither my desirable T20 full ride nor my lower T14 full ride, then I would have retaken. Is WUSTL your UCLA?

I will say though, if you are super into Seoul based wordplay, we have a fantastic Mexican/Korean fusion place right by campus called Seoul Taco

Re: Talk me out of attending WUSTL on full scholarship
You have nearly perfect grades from undergrad, AND a masters. Why do you need a JD? If you were going to get one, I would make sure it would stand a strong chance at improving your current opportunities. Not sure WUSTL really does that.
Are you very dissatisfied with the opportunities you've created for yourself already? Why did it take you this long to decide on law school? If it's just an "Im lost and this seems rather life-direction-inducing," I'd say you should rethink it and approach the value of the degree critically.

Re: Talk me out of attending WUSTL on full scholarship
I think maybe the issue is what is considered a full ride. If you think at a full scholarship for all 3 years, then yes, maybe we only had 5 matriculated students.MarkinKansasCity wrote:Those numbers are from the previous academic year, which I'm guessing means the current 2Ls. I personally know of at least a dozen students with full rides, and I haven't looked that hard. Plenty of people with great numbers were bought and paid for last year.Seoulless wrote:It looks like only 5 students matriculated with a fullride according to the ABA 509. I guess this is an indication of the general thought process of those with my scores: it's not worth it to accept? Obviously, they didn't only offer 5 such scholarships.
Thoughts?
What WUSTL does a lot is offer you a scholarship equivalent to that year's tuition for your 3 years. Technically that's not a full ride because tuition increases every year, so you could have to pay 2k in your 2L and 4k in your 3L, for example. I know way more than 5 students that had "full rides" for their first year and had to pay something for 2L and 3L. I'm one of them and don't regret my decision. Going to graduate debt free and am heading to a V50 this summer. Turned out to be a good bet for me.

Re: Talk me out of attending WUSTL on full scholarship
That's what makes WUSTL (or perhaps a peer school) an interesting choice at a full. If you're in the top quartile, you stand a good chance at profiting significantly from LS, and fast. However, you just can't be biglaw or bust. The opposite of that is scrambling for a legal job but of course you have minimal debt. (According to WUSTL, you have to spend 21k or around there for non-tuition expenses each year, but I've brought that up in the admissions forum and the people there said it was an exaggerated estimate. Either way, the maximum debt amount you're looking at is about 75000, with interest added, or possibly 80000 if you're including the tuition increases. But again, that seems like an overestimate.)Unagi wrote:I think maybe the issue is what is considered a full ride. Depends on your other options. As a recent graduate with a good job and manageable loans, believe me when I say even modest debt cripples your freedom. A full ride is a very good thing. If you have those credentials, see if you can go anywhere they will give you a stipend for living expenses.

Is it possible to negotiate a true full tuition scholarship? What is V50?Unagi wrote:I think maybe the issue is what is considered a full ride. Browsing apts on Craigslist as a proxy, it appears that housing is about half the cost of what I pay downtown in my similarly-sized metro area.sublime wrote: StL is sooooo cheap. I do whatver I want and live in a big ass 1BR place, and I couldn't crack 60k if I tried.
Of course, CL isn't equally relevant in all markets, and maybe just the hellholes are posted there. But, still...

Full scholarships in the ABA 509s

Apparently, last year WUSTL tried using hard-sell tactics by enticing holdouts with half scholarships to attend with full scholarships. They were given a 24 hour deadline.
This is the kind of shit that makes me nervous about WUSTL.
Thoughts?

Re: Talk me out of attending WUSTL on full scholarship
Yeah, that's not something to be fond of. Additionally, their admissions interviews this year, for a lot of people, came off as sales pitches. That said, if they're willing to offer a full, and you have a 25% chance at a job paying over $100,000, it's not a bad proposition for the typical college grad. RIGHT?!

If you already have a full-tuition offer, why would you care about this?Seoulless wrote:http://abovethelaw.com/2013/06/law-scho ... es-tactic/

I wouldn't say giving people the ultimatum is a scam either, but it's sleazy. Then again, what else would you expect from a law school today?cron1834 wrote:Yeah, full-tuition for ppl who get offered half that at peer schools, what a scam!
