Can someone please lead me in the correct way to use that site?
And to get things clear, Duke at sticker is still a better option than GULC with a 15K scholly, correct?

Find state you want to work in, find school you want info on, look at info.moshei24 wrote:Can someone please lead me in the correct way to use that site?

Yes.
ATL and USNWR are both starting points to making a decision but picking blindly where to attend based off such metrics is a bad idea.
Dukes main market is NYC historically (where you want to work) + they have shown better placement data not accounting for self selection within the very short term.
Michigan also has a cheap COL but most on this board would prefer Duke to Mich for NYC.

What about Cornell compared to Duke? Is that at all close? How's CoL there?

Cheap COL. For NYC, I'd say its a tossup with Duke placement wise.

3.49 165/170, got 170 on feb LSAT, and got some materials into Cornell late. Also applied end of January. Why?

I also intern for a judge who adjuncts at cls, NYU, and Fordham who wrote me letters for most of the top schools I applied to after I got waitlisted.

Use the data on LST but be wary of their employment score, which does not factor in the quality of the jobs (which has some absurd results)Nova wrote:Yup yupRegulus wrote:Forget about rankings and start using Law School Transparency instead. That being said, it's hard to make the argument that Georgetown is worth $75k over Fordham. Don't know about Duke, though

was wondering if late app or low lsat may warrant retake/reapply.moshei24 wrote:untar614 wrote:moshei, what's your LSAC GPA and LSAT score? and when did you apply?

Given that your 170 was from february, reapplying early may help. I'd feel a bit better about it if your GPA were a bit higher, so I'm not sure. I think it's take 173 or so to feel good about a good shot at NYU or CLS, if you think you could do that in October.
If you do go this year, I'd say go to Duke. The only concern I can see against with with respect to others is location. And while I'm not super familiar with Durham, I know the triangle is a pretty decent city situation - certainly not NYC or DC, but I don't think it'd be a huge issue. There's at least one Chabad and Orthodox Union in the area. The lower CoL would be nice too.

Fordham's own materials had Duke getting about 35% more placement for biglaw (101+ attorneys) + federal clerkships. I think it was 56% to like somewhere around 20%.

Re: Duke vs Georgetown vs Fordham ($$)
Yeah, my GPA is also what's scaring me. My odds are probably about 50/50, which doesn't warrant turning down Duke for a chance at NYU or Penn next year. I still have a solid chance at NYU this year with some connections I have. No guarantees, though. The issue with the Chabad is that it's by Chapel Hill which isn't walkable. The whole Orthodox life there is practically non-existent, and from what I hear, I'd be the only Jew with a yarmulke on there. But it's doable, and I'd be able to figure it out, but NYU is much better. This is annoyingly complicated.untar614 wrote:was wondering if late app or low lsat may warrant retake/reapply.moshei24 wrote:untar614 wrote:moshei, what's your LSAC GPA and LSAT score? and when did you apply?

Re: Duke vs Georgetown vs Fordham ($$)
CoL will probably be about the same for me in either area. I'd have a much bigger and nicer space, though, if I lived in Durham. However, NYC take the cake in almost everything else, as my personal life is in NYC. I would live in Washington Heights if I stayed in NYC, and the prices there are about the same as Durham. Except I'd have my own apartment in Durham, but only a decent sized room in NYC. But Orthodox life in Durham can't compete with NYC. And my family and girlfriend are in NYC.Regulus wrote:Either way, based on your career goals, of your current options I say Duke all the way. If you're lucky you might get off NYU's waitlist, but I would expect to go at sticker. If it is NYU versus Duke at sticker, I would take NYU, but if Duke offers you any money, then you'll have to consider whether NYU is worth that much more to you. Their CoL alone is going to make them more expensive than Durham, and some scholarship at Duke will only widen the gap.

Is my best choice still Duke even if my goal isn't BigLaw and I'd only be doing BigLaw to pay off debts?

And by the way, I only wrote #1. #2 was written by someone I went to my undergrad with who wanted to prove to me how arrogant and entitled I sounded in that email. After it got a bad response, I figured I'd post it myself with more background info and maybe get a different response. I didn't. Lol. But yeah, I only posted the one from "moshei24." I really don't have any reason to still deny it at this point, so there really isn't any logical reason to think I'm lying about it...

& thx for the links Reg. I agree LRod's thread was more lulzy. Its a close call between Moshei's email and Tigress' thread. IDK why but
is the funniest line ever to me.Tigress wrote:"I used to teach syntax and I like tigers because they fit my personality, is there a problem with that? Is it unethical or morally culpable?"
