You are leaving out the people who get fucked the most which are people in actually more difficult majors. This would still fuck them when they are at an UG that has a ridiculous amount of education and social work majors. Also pretty sure there were not class rankings and almost positive no valedictorian, just distinguished honors for GPA. Also yes you bring up the point about transferring schools and what about community colleges?

Eh, just do away with the A+ and rank them based on the 4.0 scale. That's my only gripe.

Agreed. It's bullshit that you can get an A+/4.33 in a class at some schools but not even have the chance to do so at other schools. It really does make a pretty big difference.NoodleyOne wrote:Eh, just do away with the A+ and rank them based on the 4.0 scale. That's my only gripe.

The best remedy to unfairness of GPAs would be to count it as 0% in the rankings, thereby preempting the need to focus so heavily on it as an admission criterion. Under your rubric, a 4.0 in Gender Studies still beats out a 3.85 in Electrical Engineering.

Agreed, and like I said, this wouldn't be a fix all. The way it is set up now already screws these people over. Using rank wouldn't fuck them over any less, but it would help people who attend schools that deliberately deflate grades. You are leaving out the people who get fucked the most which are people in actually more difficult majors.
