Unless they mean that Duke has fewer students but they are smarter, while CSoL has more and (at least) the difference is dumber. Does this assumption justify their reasoning?Wormfather wrote:This shit is under-appreciated. When considering statistical data, it is important to understand what actually goes into the statistics. For example, if Duke has 24 students sit for the bar and all 24 pass on the first time, they can boast that they have a bar passage rate of 100%. If Charlotte Law has 250 students, for example, take the exam and only 180 pass on the first time, our rate will be about 72%. We typically have more students than Duke sit for the bar, so generally their rate will differ significantly.

I wish I could find the e-mail, but did anyone else get something from Miami about a summer program that offered a $250 discount for each friend you signed up? I think it was an international law class taught overseas - essentially just an over-priced vacation.

With LSAT/GPA medians of 146/2.98, shit probably works on people seriously considering Charlotte though.Wormfather wrote:This shit is under-appreciated. I've heard this same pitch before. Maybe they look at the data for attorneys who file for unemployment? Of course, unemployment data doesn't count graduates who never get a chance to practice, underemployment and attorneys who give up on trying to get a legal job.nickb285 wrote:WTFBlueJeanBaby wrote: The unemployment rate for lawyers was 1.4% in 2012 and the unemployment rate for all other legal occupations in 2012 was 2.7%, one of the lowest unemployment rates of all professions.
All the rest of the stuff in there is the standard "average of all lawyers=your prospects out of law school" crap that everyone pulls, but how did they possibly get that number?

The structure of that sentence bugs me as much as the "the legal profession is still totes worth it for EVERYONE" bs.Hrun wrote:I've heard this same pitch before. They're not counting the legal employment rates. Lawyers who don't get jobs as lawyers still gotta work somewhere. JD Preferred jobs, etc.nickb285 wrote:WTFBlueJeanBaby wrote: The unemployment rate for lawyers was 1.4% in 2012 and the unemployment rate for all other legal occupations in 2012 was 2.7%, one of the lowest unemployment rates of all professions.
