Re: Had To Withdraw Because Of An Emergency, Now I Owe $25,000
(sorry I couldn't respond right away, dealing with an emergency)sunynp wrote:Doesnt the OP mean that they cancelled their loan but they still owe for the first semester tuition? I think Brooklyn is still charging them the tuition even though they withdrew because of emergency.
But the statement I quoted above just about sums it up. And no. I did not spend that money. That money is what they say my pro-rated fee is for the short part of the semester i was there. So basically they are saying that I owe them that tuition for the semester. I took out loans, and initially I thought that I would have to pay the LENDERS back, but they said I only used about $5,000 dollars worth of loan money with my classes, and that the rest of it that I apparently used in that short period i was there. (when I say used I don't mean me spending cash, but they say I have used that money to attend those classes, because I guess 4 weeks of classes is worth $30,000 in total somehow) totals to$25,000 that I owe them?
How can they possible expect me to pay back $25,000 in ONE YEAR? And then threaten to send me to collections if not paid by "the fall" because they haven't even given me an exact date?
eta: I've only actually spent about $7,000 of loan money, and that was ALL spent on rent and books (books only around $700) I have the receipts to prove it to them.
also I didn't take out FULL loans in the first place.

This. You're basically soliciting legal advice, which is a no-no.Swimp wrote:I think you'd probably be better off asking an actual lawyer about this.
