That's what happens when you make a movie like Annie Hall and then have children.

Dean of Admissions Asha Rangappa reads all applications and sorts them into one of three categories: those set aside as likely rejections, those for the faculty review, and those that are presumptive admits. If memory serves, presumptive admit files are sent to the Dean of Students for final approval. I think that about 60 students a year are marked as presumptive admits, but my memory is a bit hazy on this.

There really are no auto admits, look at the reported applicant data. Fully 50% of 3.75+ and 175+ applicants get rejected.

Yes it is a black box, yes it is a bunch of intagibles. But I'd bet it is a combination of stellar grades (3.9+), stellar LSAT (177+) , stellar (interesting, well written) YLS 250, Stellar UG prof recommendations, and a describable interesting life experience.

I think they are looking for potential world changers. That can be evidednced in many ways. Pure numbers alone are NOT enough- thus the "black box". Rhodes/Truman/Marshall is a proxy for an interesting person, suffcient/but not necessary. Sure there are 4.0/180 auto admits- but there are some who get declined too. And thre are sub 3.75/180 acceptances as well. Welxcome to the crapshoot.

HLS is far more numbers based-the distinction is what makes YLS what it is
