Random question, and this is probably silly, but what if you apply to a school and they send you a fee waiver afterwards. Can you request a refund?

Re: When to Expect Fee Waivers after the December LSAT
I've heard from some schools that they do grant a refund afterward, but have also heard from some other schools that you're out of luck if you've already applied and they give you a waiver later. I think it varies from school to school.houstongirl wrote:Random question, and this is probably silly, but what if you apply to a school and they send you a fee waiver afterwards. Re: When to Expect Fee Waivers after the December LSAT
I asked for and received a Georgetown waiver. I asked Columbia for one and received a reply saying they do not grant merit waivers to anyone. Is this a recent change in policy--I thought I've seen several people mention a waiver from Columbia?

It's definitely not true - I got a merit waiver from Columbia this cycle. They might mean they don't grant them on request.pride09 wrote:I asked for and received a Georgetown waiver. Ok, thanks. That's what I thought, but I didn't know why they would lie to me. Just tell me I don't qualify! But maybe one of your stipulations are right.
Here's the email I got:
Dear XXX,
Thank you for your email. Unfortunately, we do not grant merit based application fee waivers. Applicants are welcome to submit a waiver request with a detailed explanation as to why they are not able to pay the application fee, which will be reviewed by the application committee.
Thank you,

Email waiver from USC. FWIW, there is a specific note that they will not refund already paid fees.

Just got an e-mail from Duke about a fee waiver. No mention of Priority Track, does that mean I didn't make the cut for that?

I think you're right. Everyone in last year's post-December thread specified whether they got a PT or non-PT waiver, and that was true after June as well.chasgoose wrote:Just got an e-mail from Duke about a fee waiver. No mention of Priority Track, does that mean I didn't make the cut for that?

This morning...
Columbus (Catholic)
Northeastern
Tulsa - Invite to Apply, containing a link to request a fee waiver. Not explicitly given, but seems to imply that I would receive one by requesting.

I received these exact same fee waivers. I have no idea why I did not get an Alabama or Notre Dame fee waiver.

[Is there some way to keep track of the lsat scores at which schools start issuing fee waivers? seems like it could help future applicants figure out if its worth holding out a day or two for them to come in . . . apologies if this has been discussed before.]

Re: When to Expect Fee Waivers after the December LSAT
We made some attempt to do this in the larger thread for this cycle, but it ends up being not completely helpful. Most schools give them out to at least some applicants with low numbers in order to increase their number of applications, and some applicants with extremely high LSAT scores/GPAs don't receive fee waivers for certain schools. And also, even people with identical LSAT scores and a similar GPA don't receive the same fee waivers. (For example, dulcatis and I both have the same LSAT score and are 3.75+ on CRS for GPA, yet I got some merit waivers she didn't.)afLSAT wrote:[Is there some way to keep track of the lsat scores at which schools start issuing fee waivers? seems like it could help future applicants figure out if its worth holding out a day or two for them to come in . . . apologies if this has been discussed before.]
I guess what I'm saying is - it can't really hurt to do it, but the process is so random and not enough based on actual merit that it's probably more trouble than it's worth.
